The G-Con '96 Costume Contest
The stage is set, and the crowd is begining to fill in. Now, let the mayhem begin! That's right it's the costume contest, a sure highlight of any Godzilla Convention. This years was probably the best I've seen yet. So, like the model show, it was a good one to see at my very first convention. The suits ranged in material and design, and they all looked great.
Gamera seemed to be the favorite this year, as he had the most suit representations. Unfortunately, none of the Gameras won. I do believe it may have had to do with the judges being biased though, since Haruo Nakajima and Kenji Satsuma were asked to pick the winners. I'll never forget Mr. Nakajima's reason for picking one of the suits. "Generaly speaking, the quality isn't so good. But, this is G-Con!" As said when choosing the really tall Godzilla suit as one of the winners.
Below is the crowd, which gathered quickly and filled most of the seats.
