^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ THE CHRONICLES OF JEAD YUSONI #1 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Written By Ed Hrzic ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Copyright (c) 1995 by Ed Hrzic ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ----------------------------------------------------------------- This is another FanFic, sort of like Quantum Leap, but dealing with anime series' in particular. There is no replacement of characters, just...well, you'll have to read to find out. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Send any comments to "bd981@@yfn.ysu.edu". Thanks! ----------------------------------------------------------------- My name is Jead Yusoni. After creating a matter transferral device, I have been to places only few people can dream of. Different places, alternate universes...they all exist, just as my theories stated. I have since stopped my adventures in those places, since I am far too old now. Instead I have set out to write about my adventures for those in later generations. Here, I write about my first experience in one of these alternate dimensions. It was very much like our world, only some things were different... "People Change" Written, Directed and Produced by Ed Hrzic I opened my eyes and saw the bright blue sky. "Where am I?" I thought aloud. It seemed like Earth, but I knew that it wasn't. Standing up, I surveyed the surroundings. I could see that I wasn't far from a town. I heard some yells coming from behind me, and saw several children playing soccer (or futbol for those Europeans). I smiled a bit, reminding myself that someday, I'll have to get married again and have kids. What I did notice from watching their antics was the language: Japanese. What a coincidence. I grew up living next to a Japanese family, and had learned quite a bit from their teaching me, since I spent many a time with their son and daughter. Putting my mind in frame for the language, I began walking for the town. It didn't take me long to arrive. Several cars went back and forth across the streets, and many women talked and walked amidst the various shops that lined the streets. The shops reminded me of something: I had no money! No Japanese currency anyway. To top that off, I could think of a way to get home. I pulled out my wallet, hoping that there would be a bank somewhere around. It was just my luck that I found one down the street. The teller was a young girl with glasses and long black hair. Personally, I thought she was quite good looking. She was also most informative and the one-hundred dollars gave me about 9,700 yen. I don't know if that was good or not, since I haven't seen CNN in a long while. Being quite hungry, I ventured to a local shop, and looked up and down the aisles, trying to find something quick to eat. It was ten years since I had Japanese food, and I didn't learn the kanji of the language -- only the spoken grammar. So naturally I had to ask one of the cashiers. The young man needed to ask someone else for some assistance, since the day was quite busy. I kindly waited, and the young man returned with another young man. He helped me with the basics, but had to return to his work. I thanked him kindly, with a bow. He smiled at the gesture, and at my western accent. I didn't think that I had such a noticeable accent. I'll have to enroll in another Japanese class at the university. As I was picking out some oranges, I bumped into a someone. She (I could tell by the legs) dropped her lettuce, and being the gentleman, picked it up and gave it back to her. "Thank you, sir," she said. "It's the least I could do. Sorry for bumping into you ma'am." She looked at me for a moment. "You're an American, aren't you?" I shook my head. "My accent is really noticeable, isn't it?" She smiled, and it was then that I truly noticed her beauty. Her features were delicate, and her voice was so gentle, I almost melted on the spot. She would have been the most beautiful woman I would have ever seen, but she looked slightly worn, as if something was worrying her. She had something on her forehead, perhaps a birthmark. Her light brown hair fell to her knees, and it was partially tied in a bun. Her clothing consisted of a medium sized dress and a shawl. "Somewhat," she said, "but not as much as most Americans who try to speak Japanese." I laughed. "I'm sorry for not introducing myself. My name's Jead Yusoni." "Yusoni? What type of name is that?" I scratched my head. "To tell you the truth, I don't know." "Well, my name is Belldandy. Belldandy Morisato." I noticed that her kind demeanor went a little sadder when she said her full name. I really didn't want to inquire. I'm sure she could tell I noticed, because she instantly perked up. But I could tell it was a mask. "Will you be in Japan long?" I shrugged. "To tell you the truth, I don't know. I've been..." 'Quick Jead, think of something!' "...stranded here, so I don't know." She sighed. "Oh, I should be going. It's been nice talking to you, Mr. Yusoni." She slightly bowed. I returned the bow. "It was nice meeting you too, Ms. Morisato." "It's Mrs. Morisato. I'm married." Then she vanished among the other aisles of produce. 'Damn,' I thought. I picked out the rest of my food and paid for it. * * * Finding shelter was another thing that I had problems doing. If I tried to sleep out on the street, I'd probably be picked up by the local police. I'm sure I had only enough money to pay for a room for one night, and I would be out of money soon after. I decided to walk, thinking about my predicament, since I do my best thinking when I do walk. It was night, and the street lights were on. A decreasing amount of cars passed by me. Looking up at a digital clock on a billboard, it read 21:30. I didn't have a watch. I rubbed my eyes. It was already an hour and a half passed by bed time. Unfortunately, I was the only person walking. There were no locals I could ask for help. At approximately 21:50, I could hear a motorcycle, the only vehicle I had heard for a while. It stopped next to me, and the man pulled off his helmet. He had a leather jacket on and black hair. "Hey, you going someplace?" he asked. "To tell you the truth, I don't know." "American, right?" I gave up. "Yeah." "Where are you headed?" "Anywhere," I said, folding my arms due to the cold. I didn't have a jacket. It must be sometime in the winter here. "Are you lost?" I looked around briefly. "Yeah...you could say that." "Well, I'll give you a ride. Maybe you can find your way from my place." "Any place is better than here," I replied, climbing into the sidecar. "By the way, what's your name?" He started the motorcycle. "Jead Yusoni." "I'm Keiichi Morisato. Nice to meet you." "Likewise." The motorcycle roared off. * * * It dawned upon me that this Morisato was somehow related to the one I had met earlier at the store. Either that or a big coincidence. We stopped in front of what appeared to be a temple. "Nice place. Say, I think I met a relative of yours at a store. Her name was...Belldandy. Belldandy Morisato." Keiichi pulled off his helmet. "Yeah. She's my wife." That's all he said, and I was kind of shocked about it for some reason, but I paid no more attention to it. After all, it would be nice to see Belldandy's beautiful face again. Keiichi led me in, putting his helmet and jacket on a hat rack near the door. Belldandy stuck her head out from the kitchen and looked at us. "Is that you Keiichi? Oh, hello again Mr. Yusoni." "Please, just call me Jead." Keiichi started walking down the hall, Belldandy's view following him. "I made dinner for you Keii-" "I'll eat some later. I have work to do." "Oh...that's okay..." She turned back to me. "Would you like... something to eat, Mr...I mean...Jead?" I would have given the groceries that I bought to her, but I had already eaten them. Her cooking was fabulous and I couldn't help eating till I was full. I took my plates into the kitchen to where she was. "That was wonderful, Mrs. Morisato. You really are a talented cook." She had already started on the dishes. "Call me Belldandy." "Okay...Belldandy. I didn't see Keiichi eating at all..." The room grew deathly silent. It's as if a cold wind froze me in my spot. I saw the expression on Belldandy's face fail and the tears welled up in her eyes. She dropped the dish that she was washing, and fell to her knees. She cried and cried. What the hell was going on? Should I have even been here? I went down to her and put my arm around her shoulder. "What's wrong?" She continued to cry. "Belldandy, what's wrong?" There was no answer as her tears fell in torrents. The door to the kitchen opened, and an adolescent girl was standing there. She had to be about sixteen years old. If she was younger, or older, I couldn't tell. "What's wrong Belldandy?" Then she saw me. "Who are you?!" "I'm a guest." Belldandy stopped crying when she came in. "It's alright Skuld. I'm okay." She stood up, and so did I. "Jead, this is my younger sister, Skuld." I extended my hand and she took it. I noticed that she had a rather large hammer strapped to her back. I shook my head. * * * I spent the next three days at their dwelling. I was wrong when I had said that it had to be winter. It was mid summer. The trees and grass outside of temple, near the roads, were bright and full of life. Inside of the temple, however, they seemed to be not as "cheerful," as if something was dying. I was up late at night, writing some notes down on some paper that Keiichi had supplied, when I heard sobbing. I could have been mistaken, thinking it was some type of insect outside. It continued. I was sure it was Belldandy. I opened my door and walked to the room that she was in. I knocked, but it didn't seem like she heard me. Taking a chance, I opened the door. I saw her laying on a futon, body was trembling beneath the blanket as the sobs wracked her body. "Belldandy?" She looked at me, then looked away, continuing her wretched noises. I walked over, sitting next to her. "Belldandy, what's going on? I have heard you for the past three night, crying your eyes out. I thought it was something else at first, but tonight I finally realized that it was you. Is it because I'm here?" She continued to cry. "Belldandy, tell me." She sat up. "It's...it's Keiichi. He...he doesn't love me... anymore." "What are you saying?" "We've been married for twelve years, and in just the last four months, he hasn't been the same." "How so?" "When Keiichi and I first met, he was so happy that I was with him, and I was happy that he needed me...Now..." She cried again. "People change, Belldandy. I know, I have." "How have you changed?" I sighed, not wishing to bring back the memories. "I was married once. I had three children. I loved my wife more than life itself. We were driving to get some ice cream from a park where we lived, when a man driving a truck hit us from behind." I gulped, holding back the tears. "We slammed into a tree. My children...they didn't survive. They were crushed to death in the back seat. My wife..." I wiped my eyes, "she split her head open on the windshield." "Oh God..." "Since then, I haven't even let a woman get close to me." "I'm sorry." "It's okay, that's how God planned it." There was something about her that made my comment hit home within my own soul before I left her, as she continued to cry. * * * That same night, I couldn't get back sleep. Dammit. I hadn't thought about my wife for a long time. I didn't want to face that pain again. I walked out of the temple, taking a breath, hopefully letting the cold wind wash away my memories. There, I saw Belldandy's sister sitting out there, leaning on her knees. "Skuld?" "Hello," she said. "Why are you out here?" "I...come out every night...when my sister cries like that." I sat next to her. "Does she cry every night like that?" "For...for the past four months. Every night." I could see that she was about to cry, too. "Why?" "Because her husband doesn't love her anymore." "I heard, but how?" "He doesn't eat her cooking anymore. He doesn't sleep in the same room anymore. He barely even looks at her, and I don't think he's even touched her for the past three years." "Why would he do that?" "I don't know." * * * I stayed another three days, still trying to figure out how to get home. To tell the truth, I could have cared less about getting back at this point. Belldandy's and Keiichi's marriage was falling apart, and I had to do something about it. I wouldn't let their marriage be destroyed like mine. Keiichi was so lucky to have Belldandy. I had a confrontation with him about it. He merely asked politely to keep out of it. "It has nothing to do with you, stranger. The least you could do is stay out of it, since we are letting you stay here, free of charge." He had a point. As long as that was true, I couldn't do anything. * * * Belldandy looked worse and worse as the days went by. Her face was strained, and I could see that she was at the verge of breaking under the stress. Skuld took care of her as I went out to get some groceries. I stepped out of the temple and stopped. Something over to the right caught my eyes. It was a large cherry tree. I couldn't help but walk up to it and stare. That's when I turned around and looked at the surrounding trees and grass. It was worse that when I had first come. The living things were dying. I couldn't hear any birds in this area. Realization hit me like a brick while I was walking to the market. Somehow, that area was dying with her. Was she some sort of nymph who takes care of the land around her? If she was, when the ground dies, does she die? Is this why Keiichi doesn't love her anymore? All I knew was that the temple was somehow linked to her. I had to do something, even if I would be thrown out. I reached the temple, and as I walked up the steps, I could hear yelling coming from inside. It was Keiichi and Belldandy. "Keiichi! Why don't you ever touch me anymore! You said I was beautiful!" "Not any more!" I dropped the groceries and ran to the door, but didn't open it. Belldandy sobbed. "You never hold me anymore...You don't look at me...I try so hard...What did I do wrong?!" I couldn't hear Keiichi answer the question. "Keiichi please...I stayed here on Earth because of you!" Earth? "If you didn't want me here...then why did you ask me to marry you?! Don't you...love me anymore?" There was silence. Then a single word left Keiichi's lips. "No." Belldandy screamed in agony. I could hear her slump to the ground and started to cry. Keiichi continued. "Do you know why? Do you want to know why?! I'm tired of you! I'm tired of coming home to nothing! We've never had a child! I'm tired of lying to my parents and my friends about you! I'm tired of hiding the fact that you're a goddess! I hate the fact you are one! I wish you would leave!" Keiichi opened the door. I jumped to the side, hoping he wouldn't see me. He didn't. The last thing I saw him do was get into his motorcycle and drive off. Skuld ran out to the street and screamed after him. "YOU SON OF A BITCH!" She saw me on the return trip. She didn't say anything. She didn't need to. Belldandy still cried. I soon found out that both Belldandy and Skuld were goddesses, sent by the Lord. I learned about contracts, powers, and promises. It broke my heart to see what had become of Belldandy and Keiichi. Skuld whimpered. Belldandy stopped crying for a moment, and ran passed us, out of the door. I stood up. "Belldandy!" She ran out to the street. There was a blare of horns. It was too late to reach her. Even the goddess' reflexes were too slow. I don't know why, since she was a goddess, but she couldn't stop the truck from hitting her. She flew to the ground, blood trickling from her face. * * * I walked into the design studio of a car manufacturer. I don't remember the name. Skuld gave me the address of Keiichi's work place. I stormed in seeking my quarry. There he was, leaning across a table, drawing lines with various instruments. There were several other people in the room, but I didn't care. My blood was boiling and my rage was unable to be contained. "MORISATO!" Everyone in the room turned toward me, including him, as I walked toward him. Keiichi looked around. "Yusoni, if you wanted to talk, you could have called-" "What the hell is going on with you and Belldandy?!" Keiichi's face turned to an icy stare. It didn't bother me in the least. "I told you to stay out of it. You don't know shit." "I know EVERYTHING now. Contracts and all, Keiichi." "It's NOT your problem, Yusoni!" I bared my teeth and hit him as hard as I could. The right cross knocked him off of his seat and to the ground. I stood over him. "She's in the hospital, Keiichi! She got hit by a truck when running out to the street! Face it you ass-hole, YOU'RE KILLING YOUR WIFE!" I turned and left. I wanted to kill him. * * * I sat in the chair outside of Belldandy's room. The way I punched Keiichi kept repeating itself in my mind. Skuld sat next to me. "Do you think she'll be okay?" she asked. Skuld was definitely worried. She had never seen her sister like this. "She's a goddess, right? I'm sure she'll be fine." "I'm not...sure. Since Keiichi doesn't love her...her powers may...not keep her alive..." She broke down and cried on my shoulder. I put my arm around her and stroked her hair. I heard footsteps. I looked up. It was Keiichi. The bruise on his left cheek had shown up already. "Where is she?" I pointed forward. Keiichi looked at the door and walked up to it. He grasped the handle, then let go. "I can't." I stood up. "What do you mean you can't! She's in a coma! She's your WIFE, Keiichi!" He opened the door and walked in. I walked up to the door and propped it open somewhat, without him knowing. There, I watched and listened in full view. Keiichi looked at her laying in the bed, with bandages around her forehead, and tubes running from her arms. He stood for a few moments, then fell to his knees, crying over her. "What have I done... What have I done Belldandy?" He took her hand into his own. "I'm sorry... I'm so sorry. It's my fault." Her heart stopped. The machine wined. "No...no...I won't let you die Belldandy! I love you! I'll love you to the day I die! If...if you could just get well, it would be different...I swear it would...I don't care about you being a goddess...I'd lie to the devil himself if it would bring you back..." The tears in my eyes couldn't help but fall. I knew Keiichi meant what he said. Then, I saw the miracle descend. Belldandy opened her eyes to Keiichi's tear strained ones. "Keiichi..." "Belldandy..." "Oh...Keiichi..." she began to cry. He kissed her, their tears mixing together. "It will be different. From now on it will. I promise." "I believe you," she cried even more. When the doctor walked up, I got up and went in with him. He was surprised to see her awake. He checked her, and a nurse did so as well. The doctor still couldn't believe. "It's amazing... I don't know how..." He turned to the nurse, "It's amazing that the child wasn't hurt." "Belldandy was, doctor," Keiichi said. The doctor shook his head. "No, I meant her child. She's four months pregnant." Keiichi looked down into her eyes and she nodded. "What happened to your face Keiichi?" "I had some sense knocked into me." The last thing I remember was Belldandy asking where I was. I didn't need any thanks. The renewed love in their eyes was more than thanks enough. That, and the expression on Skuld's face when I began to disappear from view, smiling. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Help!
