Prince Chadwick

Shadow: Miskaton
General Description
Chadwick Moore III was born a dutiful son of Her Majesty's British Empire, Sir Chadwick Moore II and Mrs. Evelyn Flaumel (i.e. Flora). More recently however, and much to his own bemusement, Chadwick has found himself reborn as an Amberite in his mother's image, courtesy of a most peculiar assortment of midwives and circumstance. A young man who is no fool and quite aware of the disadvantage to his peers that both his youth and inexperience afford him, he ceaselessly tries to learn the ropes of Amber lest they become entwined about his neck. Having potential, but little skill and no clue as to the rules of this new game, Chadwick must rely upon his natural affinity for people, his humanity and the meager, albeit useful skills of his upbringing...those of the consummate diplomat. A trade for which he has little love, only an uncanny affinity.
Physical Description
Chadwick is fair complected, stands at roughly six feet in height and has the modest build and appearance of an athletic young man in his early twenties. His dress is principally off-white, traced with varied shades of gold, understated and yet elegant in its simplicity. When working within the court, his attire will be accentuated by a simple tabard, emblazoned with the rampant unicorn of Amber. His manner is usually relaxed and jovial until he is engaged in a situation that requires he adopt a different persona, such as court, wherein he assumes a role appropriate to his station and birth. Although such roles are relatively tedious to him, he is well-versed and practiced in them, courtesy of his upbringing as both the son of Florimel and a dutiful son of the British Empire's upper class. The ease with which he can alternate between rigid court necessities and easy going youth has left more than one unaware individual profoundly nonplused at the transition.
Trump Description
The card depicts a young man of determined nature, contemplating a single point of light amidst a sea a darkness. He is fair of face, bearing and complexion with side swept strawberry blond hair, blue green eyes and a look about him that would make a Hollywood agent drool in anticipation of revenue percentages. His attire is simple but elegant, principally off white with gold trim. No malice taints his bearing, but a definite underscoring of intensity and contemplation hang upon his brow. His eyes bespeak an intellect tempered with disarming affability, and his gaze conveys an insightful nature and sharp wit balanced by a sense of familial loyalty and personal honor. His countenance is a paradoxical blend of intensity, devotion and mirth. Although his image depicts a man lost in thought and reflection, the half smile that plays across his face hints of youthful exuberance and mischief.
Colors
Off-white and Yellow-gold
Personal Symbol
Chadwick's personal symbol is that of a deep orange sun, offset by a small but intense yellow star at its upper right corner. The sun represents the birthplace and source of all things, while the star is but an echo or reflection of the sun as evident from a great distance. Smaller and less obvious than the sun, it guides one through the darkness of night and provides a way for those who still seek that which it represents. Where the sun is the birthplace, the star is the memory that guides. They are merely different aspects of a greater whole. As facets of the source of creation aspect to their symbolism, the sun and star may also represent the family and the continuity of being it represents, or even Amber itself in the midst of shadow and chaos.
Birthplace
Chadwick was born on Shadow Earth, in the land known as England.
Family
Son of Sir Chadwick Moore II and Mrs. Evelyn Flaumel (i.e. Flora).
Residences
In Amber:
Chadwick has three large rooms in Castle Amber adjoining his mother's suites. Each has vaulted ceilings and is resplendent with windows. A four post bed made of a material vaguely reminiscent of burnished hematite sits along the wall of his bedroom. The lighting is principally indirect and glass side tables and desk adjoin the bed. A few oriental rugs in deep blues and greens cover the marble floors. The wall hangings are of eye catching black and white photographic prints he grew fond of on shadow earth. The furniture and black marble fireplace contrast the other wise white walls and floor. Across from his desk is an armoire resplendent with clothes from court finery to simple slacks and shirts. In the last corner of the bedroom is an oversized bath. The study is a much more traditional and warm place lined with books and tomes ranging all subjects. The desk is a grand affair of ebony inlaid with purple heart and other rare woods. The room has many big comforting chairs that seem to encompass you when you sit in them and a drink stand sits in the corner. This room is not formal, simply comfortable. The sitting room, used for receiving visitors, uses a wall of mirrors to appear even larger than it in reality is. Considering the large nature of the room to begin with, this is to some effect. It is well lit, principally in shades of white with subtle colorations and comfortable furniture. An ornate player piano sits in one corner, usually playing some soothing strains of music. A small waterfall fountain lines one wall gathering in a shallow pool at its base framed in stones and topiary. A mural of a beautiful summer sky adorns the domed ceiling and plants abound. White rugs cover the floor in places and glass topped tables round out the decor with the occasional sculpture. On the remaining wall is the symbol of Miskaton and Chadwick's personal moniker, the sun and star, rendered in some iridescent glassy material.
Quotes about Chadwick
"Well trained, well dressed-- harmless." --Ariel (Dec. 1, 1996)
"He is a nice enough fellow, but a Prince of Amber he is
not..." --Arthur (May 1, 1997)
"I know almost nothing of this one. I just would say that it is a folly
to support Random in his 13th hour." -- Jaysen (January 1998)
"Inept whelp of Flora. He is completely unworthy of his great birthrights and privileges. Needs a long, and elaborate re-education program." --Karl (Dec. 1, 1996)
"When we met at the ball, he asked Talia about me...ignoring the fact that I was right there, and talked about me in the third person. I curtseyed and left; the whole scene was being to remind me one of those awful parent-teacher conferences that Konrad forced me to sit through. Maybe it's 'appropriate' in Amber to do that, but I thought he was being a dork." --Katherine (March 1, 1998)
"Why did I ever care? Even now the emotions that once rocked the foundations of my soul now seem distant and incomprehensible. You are just a boy, Chadwick, irrational and irresponsible. We will not meet again, save in your nightmares." --Konrad (January 1998)
"What a strange little man he is. Not to mention rude. Had I not been
told that he is Flora's son, I never would have imagined it. Perhaps the
bullet Random shot into his head destroyed the part of his brain where he
kept his manners." --Lorian (March 1, 1998)
"His naiveté is mildly amusing, but wears thin quickly. He may prove to be a worthy ally, after being smacked down a couple times...." --Quynn (Dec. 1, 1996)
"I told you once that I was once like you, and I meant it. You are so
full of eagerness and sincerity, it virtually seeps from your pores.
But to what ends, dear cousin? In these courts such honesty is rarely
rewarded, save with the grace of a quick death..."
-- Talia Bacquillinor (Dec. 22, 1997)
"Decorum has its time and place--it shouldn't run one's life." --Torrence (March 1, 1998)
