1) Sea Season 1345 (Shopping)(November 20th, 2000)
Party: Ashart Bolison, Humakti Warrior (Gary H.), Dagbjartr Haukson,
Issaries Trader (Doug Sh.)
NPCs: Angorri Farnanson, Issaries Trader; Ferena Unasdaughter, Axe Maiden of
Babeester Gor, six fyrdmen (Knorri, Karl, Kerri, Svart, Dokal and Dalla); two hunter
scouts (Ulf and Sturli); and Dag's followers and allies (his niece Fretta, and Raven
Gunnarson and Bersi Thyrmson).
The party is chosen by Blunt and the Ring
to travel to Smithstone and purchase some additional supplies for the Amber Clan's long
journey northward. They are to purchase as much of the following as possible :
cloth
metals (in ingots, not ore)
thread
salt
rope
barrels
flour
paper and other writing supplies
To purchase these goods they are given a large amount of the
Urlanging clan wealth, a large wain drawn by six oxen, as well as the fyrd and scouts to
guard it. Ashart and Ferena are sent along (much against Ferena's will) to protect
the wealth. Ferena's objections to going were overruled by Randella
Ernaldestadaughter's stressing the importance of this mission.
After an uneventful two days travel the party arrives late in the
day at Smithstone. Since it is so late in the day all they can do is to go to the
inn recommended by Skorri, the Grump Dwarf and take accommodations. They enter the
newly repaired wooden palisade (rotting logs having been replaced) and marvel at a place
where over 300 people are crammed together! The fyrd men are unashamedly agog while
Dag is cooler as he has seen Notchet. He tells the fyrd men about it and they cannot
believe his tales of a city made of stone. The locals make warding signs at the
sight of Ferena and Ashart riding through their town. Ashart's strange black armour
and his pale visage are almost as scary as the sight of a Babeester Gor axe maiden.
They reach the inn where they put the wagon in the stable and set up heavy guard rotations
to protect it. The night passes uneventfully.
The next day the traders go to visit Skap the Sharp, main trader in
Smithstone, to purchase the needed goods. After they reach his longhouse and after
the small talk is over they discover that all the goods they are looking for have already
been purchased by one Garstal Ortossison, the right hand man of someone named Sir Withal,
an agent of the Pharoah several days prior. After the traders return to the inn and
tell Ashart and the others this they learn from Ingard Ingardson, the inn keep about the
meeting between Skerri Brightspear and Sir Withal (see Episode1,
Scene 2 of the e-mail campaign). They also learn that this Garstal had nine men
with him.
Ashart is already planning on getting the goods from this Garstal,
either by paying for them or by force. He asks who the leader of the town's guard is
and learns that it's Throngar Throngarson. He asks where he can be found and is
directed to the major's hall where he is redirected to a field outside of the stockade.
Ashart and the other leaders go there where they find Throngar drilling the fyrd.
They find that he is a Humakti and after speaking with him a bit they discover his
anti-Pharoah sentiments and learn that Garstal and his men are still camped two hours
south-east of Smithstone. Throngar tells them that Garstal is not a bad sort but his
men are complete scum all of whom he would gladly hang. And as for Sir Withal
he's just lucky he left town when he did... Throngar also informs them that he's not
responsible for bandit raids outside of Smithstone proper. Throngar invites Ashart to the
evening devotions at the Humakt temple which he gladly accepts.
Back at the inn the group decides to pay Garstal a visit and offer
to buy the goods and if not... Ashart says that he'll ask Throngar if he can borrow
some fyrd men to guard their wagon while they are gone. After the service Throngar
gladly agrees to offer some fyrd men and Humakti initiates under his command.
Before first light the next morning the party heads out. The
scouts easily find the camp and the whole group approaches in a cautious, but not overtly
hostile manner. Angorri moves forward alone to negotiate and Garstal does the same.
The pair talk and everyone can see Garstal shaking his head no repeatedly.
Angorri rides back and the party prepares to fight. Garstal acts first throwing a
thunder stone at Ferena which she deflects with her axe back at him! Having
dismounted and called on their feats the party moves forward and battle is engaged.
It goes hot and heavy for quite a while mostly in the party's favour. (Garstal's god
Hedkoranth obviously wasn't favouring him much). Finally Garstal is struck down and
all of his followers (at least the seven still standing) throw down their weapons and
surrender.
The party revives their fallen and disarms the enemy. They try
and get Garstal and his men to swear an oath not to fight against them directly for at
least a season. Garstal says that they cannot do this since they are already under a
conflicting oath. Finally the party settles for taking their horses and the two
wagons they have and letting them go. Garstal and his men head south and Garstal
tells them that they will undoubtedly meet again.
2) Sea Season 1345 (March 03,
2001) A Walk in the Troll Woods (scenario)
Party: Ashart Bolison, Humakti Warrior (Gary H.), Dagbjartr
Haukson, Issaries Trader (Doug Sh.)
NPCs: The rest of the Amberi save the scouting
party, some of the Brown Boars and various Lonisi notables.
The Amber Clan continued moving northwards.
They reached Lonisi lands where the Elmali bloodline were adopted into the clan. Una
Oxenlover stepped down into the Outer Ring to make way for Iskali. According to the
passage restrictions Skerri Brightspear negotiated Blunt,
Branbrig Slayer and Ashart Bolison went to finalize things with the Brown Boars. The same
two Brown Boar fyrdmen who had met the scouting party met Blunt and the rest. Blunt
restrained himself and only knocked Orldag unconscious rather than killing him when the
insults went too far. They met Chief Orlagard and he presented their three alternatives.
1) Raid an established troll village; 2) Raid a troll caravan; 3)
Raid a newer village on the border of the Troll Woods.
Ashart had been placed in charge of the warband in Orlev's absence
and he wanted to attack the caravan. Unfortunately they weren't prepared to wait the six
weeks until one showed up so they switched to the newer village. The attacking force
consisted of :
Ashart and his four Weaponstorms
Branbrig and his four Weaponstorms
Iskalli Endalson and his three Elmali weaponsthanes
Jarang Hauberk
15 Amber weaponsthanes
80 fyrdmen
10 healers
Dagbjartr Haukson went along with the fyrd as well as a volunteer.
The Brown Boars sent 9 weaponsthanes under one of their
weaponsthanes, Olli Three Legs, 2 scouts and 40 fyrdmen. So the grand total was 25
weaponsthanes and 120 fyrdmen.
They marched into the Troll Wood and suffered attacks from
stingworms and giant ticks. As they neared the village they were attacked by watch beetles
which alerted the trolls. They slaughtered the beetles and then entered the village where
500 trollkin swarmed them. Right after entering they started hearing troll drums.
the fyrd and warriors performed well against the trollkin with Branbrig and Ashart
disposing of a trollkin a round. The other warriors did equally well. The fyrd
and Dag managed to cut one down for every two Branbrig and Ashart did
Before the trollkin broke Ashart decided to silence the drummers so
he took Iskalli and his Elmali and Branbrig towards the cave. The six of them slaughtered
any trollkin in their way and moved up to the cave complex housing the temple. The
14 of them were attacked by a dozen zombies. The zombies fought well and Ashart
learned a hard lesson in not being too greedy when calling upon Humakt's feats. He ended
up at -10 after failing three attempts). Branbrig was not fighting well and fed up
with his poor performance he went berserk. He quickly finished off his two zombies and by
then the rest had been slain. At the moment the trollkin finally broke and fled the Zorak
Zorani charged out of the cave (24 dark trolls and 12 great trolls). Ashart ordered a fall
back to the shield wall and the fyrd. Unfortunately Branbrig charged instead! The Death
Lord was berserk as well and the pair exchanged a round of blows (Branbrig was at 84 AP by
this time). All of the trolls except for the two beside the Death Lord charged forward to
hit the fyrd/shield wall). During the second exchange of blows Branbrig chopped the Death
Lord in half. He then chopped the other two trolls in half, one after the other.
Meanwhile the shield wall was holding. 24 weaponsthanes and a 100
odd fyrdmen vs 21 dark trolls and 12 great trolls. They exchanged a couple of rounds of
blows but by then Branbrig was finished with the three by the cave and the fyrd was
starting to envelop the trolls. Branbrig charged down the slope and started killing
trolls. He was killing one every round. After he'd killed 9 of them they broke and ran for
it. Branbrig and the rest chased them but fortunately for them trolls run faster than
humans so they lost them. Dag was running after Branbrig waiting for him to be out of the
fight so he could try and get him out of his berserk fit. He used an Issaries feat Clear
Voice Shout to tell him the fight was over and rolled a critical. Branbrig fumbled his
resistance (well, failed but he rolled a 20 and Doug rolled a 1) came to and passed out.
They killed every troll/trollkin they could find ~360 of them and
the 9 trolls (three of whom were great trolls) burned everything, decided going into a
Zorak Zoran temple was folly and buggered off with their wounded. They lost 1 Elamli
weaponsthane killed by zombies and 7 fyrdmen. 13 more were wounded. A great victory.
3) Late Sea
Season 1345 (March 31, 2001) The Hunt for Red
Kare (scenario)
Party: Ashart Bolison, Humakti Warrior (Gary H.), Dagbjartr
Haukson, Issaries Trader (Doug Sh.), Salinar Mannison, Elmali Warrior (Henry S.)
NPCs: The rest of the Amberi save the scouting
party.
The clan was heading northwards through the territory claimed by no
one between the Brown Boar's tula and the lands of the Balmyri when they encountered first
Orlev Ice-eyes with the news of the scouting party's negotiation
victory over the Balmyri. This heartened the clan and they continued onward.
As they got a little further north they encountered two Balmyri scouts. The
scouts told the Amberi that they had stumbled upon the hideout of the notorious Gagarthi
bandit Red Kare. Blunt was torn. He wanted to strike while they had the chance
and kill the bandits but he wasn't convinced risking more fyrdmen was a good idea.
He decided to ask the people. Orlaront Mosdorlson, Randella Ernaldestadaughter and
Iskalli Endalson of the inner ring voted against the raid. Angorri Farnanson,
trader, Branbrig Slayer, clan champion, Enfrew Scapegoat, Trickster, Una Oxen Lover,
priestess of Uralda of the outer ring all voted in favour of the raid while Enerin the
Kind, White Healer and Skeli Redbeard Lhankor Mhy Lawspeaker voted against the raid.
Blunt and Rasmus Borngoldson of the inner ring were undecided and others were asked their
opinions.
Dagbjartr, Ashart and Salinar all stood up and spoke in favour of
such a raid for much the same reasons, Orlanthi duty, protecting trade, helping migrating
clans, doing their future neighbours a favour, etc. These arguments swayed Rasmus
and Blunt and it was decided that a raid would be done. (The previous day Blunt had
asked Ashart to step aside as clan war leader as the fyrd were uncomfortable following a
Humakti. Iskalli Endalson was chosen to replace him. Ashart was placed in
charge of the raiding party however).
It was decided to send forty fyrdmen and at least four warriors and
eight healers, all volunteers. Both Jarang Hauberk and Branbrig Slayer volunteered
to go. This made the war band consist of :
Ashart Bolison, leader
Branbrig Slayer, warrior
Jarang Hauberk, warrior
Salinar Mannison, warrior
Branbrig's Weaponstorms and Salinar's followers
Dagbjartr (he was asked to go along due to his success with calming
Branbrig down in the past), 40 fyrdmen and the eight healers.
The Balmyri scouts went along as well to show them the way.
The next day the war band marched eastward up into the hills and tried to approach
quietly. Unfortunately they were detected by Red Kare's scouts. The four
horsemen fled when they spotted the war band and when Salinar and his followers tried to
pursue they only caught one of them due to the amazing horsemanship of the Gagarthi.
They questioned the rider but didn't learn anything useful from him despite their
threats. They finally let him go weapon less on his horse.
The war band approached the three longhouses the Gagarthi were
living in and heard nothing from them. The war band stopped to call on their feats
for offense and defense and having just finished that they heard the thunder of hooves and
the band of Gagarthi numbering roughly sixty raced out mounted on their horses and
stranger beasts as nine of them were Praxians. Heartened by Ashart the fyrd stood to
receive the charge. The Gagarthi stopped before contact and used their magic to
throw javelins from a great distance. Ashart led the war band in a charge on them
which engaged the horsemen. Branbrig went berserk and charged towards Red Kare.
Red Kare used Gagarthi's feats to make his horse fly and flew over the battle.
He smashed a container and released a whirlvish which attacked the right flank.
Salinar and his followers tried to charge the Gagarthi but Red Kare swooped down
and chased them off, knocking one of his followers down.
Jarang Hauberk tried to command the whirlvish to depart but failed.
He then tried to battle it but failed at that as well. Finally the fyrdmen
managed to slay it themselves. Branbrig meanwhile caught Red Kare on the ground and slew
him. At this point the Gagarthi fled the field of battle taking much of the portable
loot with them. Branbrig chased after the Gagarthi on foot and Dag tried to use his
Communications affinity again to calm him but failed. Then Ashart used his Truth
affinity to make him realize that the battle was over and he came out of his rage.
At least two thirds of the Gagarthi escaped.
The warband slaughtered the captives, buried the remains of any of
their victims the found and returned to the Amberi much the richer.
4) Early
Fire Season 1345 Treachery! (An interlude)
On the day following your triumph against Red Kare
and his followers the clan is once again on the march. After some fruitless questioning
the captive Gagarthi you took were hung and the preserved head of Red Kare taken as a gift
for the Balmyri. You took all the treasure you found in the longhouses of the lair which
turned to be quite a lot. Mostly the less portable wealth that the survivors hadn't
managed to flee with. With the help of Salinar and his followers you also managed to
capture some of their mounts as well. Una Oxenlover shook her head at the sight of the
bison and the weird antelopes you caught though. She's not sure what you're going to do
with them. Blunt rewarded all the survivors well. Two fyrdmen were slain and another three
will be some time recovering. Once you get settled in your new home a great celebration
will be held in honour of the victories you've had.
As the clan marches north you are all riding up at the front near
Blunt when there is a loud whooshing sound and a wind daimone swoops down at Blunt. He
stands tall while those about him duck and the spirit whispers in his ear before dropping
a scroll in his hand and then swooping off. He frowns mightily and bellows for Skeli
Redbeard. While Skeli is being found Blunt calls for a halt and the whole clan slowly
grinds to a stop. Skeli is found and he hurries over to Blunt. Under the canopy that was
raised Blunt and Skeli bend over the tiny scroll. Skeli reads to him what is written there
and Blunt shouts in anger. An immediate ring meeting is called and all outer and inner
members are summoned. After everyone is found Blunt tells you what he has learned.
Blunt : "The daimone whispered these words of Skerri's to me :
"Treachery. Do not enter Balmyri lands. Watch out for the
Horsespawn. Go east. We will join you."
The daimone also brought a note from Orlev Ice-eyes to me and Skeli
has read this to me. A member of the Balmyri inner ring has plotted treachery against us
with the Horsespawn."
The assembled ring hisses and shouts in anger at this news.
Blunt raises his hand and speaks.
"On top of this it seems that this ring member, the so-called
Bjolf the Mighty also plots vengeance against the Torkani, the bandit our war party slew
and all who have wronged him in the past. The gist is that we cannot travel north through
Balmyri lands."
An enormous uproar ensues with everyone shouting for vengeance and
an immediate death to this Bjolf. Eventually Blunt has had enough and he gets Skeli to use
his god gift of the Great Voice to bellow over the noise and call for silence.
"We must choose a new homeland. I have news from Skerri through
Orlev of a possible new destination but we must discuss this. But first we must tell the
people what has happened."
Blunt sends all of you (as well as others) out to the campfires (for
it is evening by now) to tell the people what has happened. He has you tell them about the
Balmyri treachery and that they must meet tomorrow morning and chose a new destination. He
asks you to stay with the people and get them calm again so no one does anything foolish.
Well by the time the fuss has all died down you're all sure that
anyone at the top of Kero Fin will have heard the uproar as mighty as it was. You hear a
great uproar and then silence as you head back to the ring meeting. There you find that
the argument is just about over. Skeli tells you what just happened.
"The ring was not happy and some blamed Blunt's poor
performance in his re-enactment of the Making of the Storm Tribe myth. He stared those
people down reminding them that they have made it this far and have won two glorious
victories against the trolls and the Gagarthi. Other people reminded him that without
Branbrig Slayer's participation in those battles the results would have been different and
they called for Branbrig to be made chief. This infuriated Blunt and he was just about to
tear the Amber Crown from his head when Branbrig stood up startling everyone as all had
thought him asleep. He said :
"I am not the cloth that a chieftain is cut from. I choose
Blunt and I still choose Blunt to lead me. When he says kill I will kill, when he says
spare I will spare."
He sat down and the implied threat quieted the crowd. The most vocal
of those who asked for Blunt to stand down as chief, Orlaront Mosdorlson, walked over to
Blunt and offered him his hand.
"I am sorry Blunt, my fury at the Balmyri perfidy has angered
me so that I did not know what I was saying. You have led us well so far and you still
have my support."
Blunt took his hand and clasped it though the lightning still played
in his eyes."
It was at this point that you arrived back to the sound of people
assuring Blunt that they still support him. After Skeli tells you what happened Blunt
turns to address the ring. Backlit by the great bonfire he says.
"It seems that we have no real choice left to us but the one
mentioned by Skerri and the Torkani. We will skirt Balmyri lands to the southeast, travel
through the Torkani gap and pass though their lands to the south. The gods will show us
where they want us to live and we shall thrive there!"
A great bellow rises up at this and everyone cheers. You are all
recruited again to go out and spread the news despite your tiredness and it is a long time
before any of you sees your bedroll.
5) Early
Earth Season 1345 Here Comes the Bride?
scenario
Party: Ashart Bolison, Humakti Warrior (Gary H.), Dagbjartr
Haukson, Issaries Trader (Doug Sh.), Salinar Mannison, Elmali Warrior (Henry S.), Skerri
Brightspear (Oliver B.)
NPCs: Erland
Jorundson (Amber fyrdman), Halklel Jorundson (Amber fyrdman), Styr Jorundson (Amber
fyrdman), Age Marson (Amber fyrdman),
Bodvar Salinargson (follower of Salinar), Cawley Gardarson
(follower of Salinar), Arene Ranasdaughter (follower of Skerri), Lismelder Dissdaughter
(Amber fyrdwoman), Raven Gunnarson (follower of Dagbjartr), Bersi Thyrmson (follower of
Dagbjartr), and Harvar Hengallson (Rakish Stranger)
Blunt Ashbjorn having decided to set aside his year wife, Skerri
Brightspear, and take the advice of Randella Ernaldestadaughter and the women's circle now
seeks a new bride in the person of Thorgunna
Brynhildsdaughter, a member of the Torkani tribe. What was known about this
Thorgunna was that she is very ambitious and wants to be the wife of a chief. She
is also a very talented devotee of Belveran the Chaos Cleanser, which would be a very
useful cult in the Sounder Vale.
Blunt has directed Dagbjartr
Haukson to negotiate on his behalf with the Torkani. He is sending Ashart Bolison
and Salinar Mannison along as protection and to make the embassy seem more impressive.
Much against his wishes but at the urging of the women's circle Blunt is also
sending Skerri along to swear that the year marriage will be over soon. Blunt knows
that her bride price will be around fifty cattle so he sends the following wealth along :
10 Fine Cattle 17 each
Iron chain byrnie (worth eight cattle)
Iron bastard sword (worth four cattle)
10 ounces of gold (worth twenty cattle)
20 ounces of silver (worth forty cattle)
A further 20 cattles worth of goods were sent along as
gifts and bribes.
He sends the Jorundson cousins and Age Marson along plus
Lismelder Dissdaughter, also of the fyrd. That makes a
total of fourteen people going including Bersi Thyrmson and Raven Gunnarson, the followers
of Dagbjartr. Blunt also asks Dagbjartr to spread around the Torkani the news that
settlers will be welcome among the Amberi. Blunt also tells them to retrace their
path from Torkani lands on the way north but to head east into Prax to do some scouting on
the way back. He asks them to skirt the foothills and not go too far into Prax.
Ashart is placed in charge of the embassy militarily. Before he sent them out
he made sure to gift all the people involved in the raid on Red Kare, giving gold arm
bands to Salinar and Ashart and one of Red Kare's iron swords to Dag.
Dagbjartr prepares by talking to the women of the clan about their
experiences with bride price negotiations and he gets an earful from them. They
prepare for two days and finally Skerri and Arene are seen camped just outside the stead.
Ashart rides out to speak with them and ask her whether "She's gotten over
it." She smiles and says that she's fine and will wait where she is until they
are ready to leave. Ashart says he'll bring their horses and Skerri asks for some
food as well.
The next morning the embassy leaves the stead after Blunt sacrifices
to Orlanth, Vinga and Issaries for success in the mission and safety on the trail. After
they ride a short while Harvar Hengallson, Skerri's old friend rides up and asks to go
along as he has no stomach for real work. They shrug and let him go along.
The embassy rides north with most people being in good spirits,
except Skerri and Arene. Skerri avoids Ashart, riding as far from him as possible.
The Jorundson cousins and Age flirt with Lismelder and Arene until Ashart makes an
offhand comment about how "Humakt embraces everyone... eventually." This
puts a pall over the lightheartedness (with everyone making signs to ward off evil) and
the rest of the day sees a much subdued party heading northwards. Ashart and Salinar
spend part of the day arguing the respective virtues of heavy infantry vs mounted cavalry
and try and convince the fyrdmen (and woman) that they should join with their future
warbands.
The fyrdmen (and woman) lose interest in this argument rather
quickly and avoid the pair from then on. Salinar also talks with Arene and tries to
bring her out of her shell. They share their experiences being slaves of the
Hendrikiland knights and Arene finds some comfort. Around the campfire that evening
Skerri continues to avoid Ashart who shrugs and accepts it philosophically. That
night Ashart sets watches, making sure an Elmali is on each watch. Skerri gets the
last watch and when Salinar goes to wake her up she throws up all over him. She
helps him clean up and confides to him that she is pregnant with Blunt's child. He
says he'll keep her secret but she decides to tell anyone anyway. She apologizes to
Ashart later and tells him that her fear of contamination for her unborn baby kept her
away from him. He shrugged and said it was all right.
They continued on their way until they reached the boundaries of
southern Torkani land (the whole trip taking about 11 days because of the cattle) which
coincidentally turned out to be the land of the Strong Arm clan, the one Thorgunna belongs
to. They proceeded slowly until they encountered a Torkani warrior named Braun
Smithson who went through the Orlanthi greeting with Dag. He welcomed them giving
them water and a blanket in his chiefs hall. They followed him and his men to his
chief's hall. Just before they reached the stead Dag asked his followers Raven and Bersi
to seek out Thorgunna and tell her that they have come seeking her hand in marriage. The
Strong Arm chief, Regin the Cottar, welcomed them and said that they would have a feast
that night in their honour. As they were talking with the chief Thorgunna came in.
She turned out to be a beautiful, petite woman who immediately asked Dag to speak
with her privately. She questioned him about Blunt and seemed intrigued by the
offer.
Everyone took Chief Regin's offer of a chance to clean up seriously
with Ashart clearing out the sauna with his mere presence. Salinar was the only one
who would share it with him. That evening all the clans notables gathered and
Dagbjartr revealed the real reason they had traveled. Chief Regin told him that he
would have to take it up with Booth the Hunchback, Spakemen of the Silver Alynx bloodline
first to get his permission. Booth who was at the feast seemed a sour specimen and
invited them to his stead the next day to discuss the marriage. During the dinner
Skerri ran out to throw up and Thorgunna followed her. She wasn't smiling when she
came back in with Skerri but Skerri was smiling and patting her belly. She cornered
Dag later about Skerri's pregnancy and Dag admitted not having told her. He
apologized and she didn't give him the impression that the marriage was impossible.
Regin later told Dag that if he didn't get Booth's approval he might as well wait for the
old bastard to die before trying again.
The next afternoon they traveled to the Silver Alynx's stead where
they were struck by its frugality. Dag gifted the major people of the bloodline but
Salinar was insulted by one of Thorgunna's four brothers. Booth put an end to the
insults and invited them in to the feast. During the feast Booth cast doubts to why
he should let his granddaughter go somewhere dangerous enough to need a chaos cleanser.
He wondered whether the Amberi would be able to protect his daughter and demanded
that the Amberi warriors must battle his four grandsons to prove their worth. Ashart
was against such a trivilization of combat but the rest talked him into it. The
sparring matches were set for the next day.
Since they only had three Amberi warriors Dag was allowed to battle.
All four of Booth's grandsons were followers of Yavor Lightning. Feats were
allowed but no mounted combat and no followers. Dag used his magic icons to ask for
protection but his protection was lessened instead. He and the youngest brother had
a short battle but eventually he was struck down.
Next Skerri battled the next brother. She tried to blind the
brother with her spear but failed. He used one of his gods feats to blind her a bit
but the battle was over quickly and resulted in her victory.
Next Salinar faced the next eldest brother. He and the brother
had a mighty battle but despite his most desperate efforts (a last gasp effort and
spending a hero point) he was defeated. The crowd appreciated his effort though.
Next Ashart battled the eldest. He called upon Humakt to bless
his spear and got a double result (+8 edge). The brother tried to use a ball
lightning feat on Ashart but failed and was himself struck by it. Then Ashart struck
a mighty blow which knocked the brother unconscious and left a serious scar on him.
The sparring was over and the Amberi were declared the victors.
Another feast was held and Booth asked his granddaughter whether she accepted
Blunt's troth. She was convinced by Dag to do so and now all he had to do was
convince Booth himself. Dag offered the cattle, the iron byrnie, ten ounces of gold,
and six ounces of silver (54 cattles worth in all). Booth and Dag had a mighty debate and
finally Dag was victorious.
Then he had to convince Regin the Cottar and this was no challenge
as he wanted nothing better than to get rid of Thorgunna (due to her constantly throwing
herself at various chieftains). He agreed immediately saying that he valued the
friendship with the Amberi and couldn't object if Booth didn't.
Regin Maniskison, the Crow was a
different story. He too wanted to be rid of the embarrassment that was Thorgunna but
he wanted Dag to agree to six years of joint cattle raids between the Torkani and the
Amberi and one big battle during that period as well. Dag tried to negotiate him
down to three raids (realizing the value of cattle raids for the young men) and the one
battle but he couldn't make him agree so that was the price negotiated.
And with that Blunt had a new bride. All they have to
do now is to get her back to Amberi lands.
