Peoples of Middle-Earth in the Third Age of the Sun

Variags

The Variags are a semi-nomadic people who reside on the broad, arid plataeu of Khand, south-east of Mordor. They and their cousins, Asdriags, Nûriags and Nûrniags, are accounted the most vicious of men. They are always about one war or another, either amongst themselves or against one of their more civilised neighbours.

Women hold much power within Variag society. They are the priests of their dark, bloody cults. And women may take multiple husbands.

Like many Easterling peoples, the Variags are shorter than their western neighbours. Dark of hair and complexion, facial tattoos are often inscribed in bright colours, clashing with their clothes and jewellry.

Attributes:

Varadja
The native tongue of the Variags is well suited to the short brutal lives of it's speakers. It is spoken more widely as a second language than one might expect; when Variags conquer a nearby kingdom and place themselves upon the throne, they don't waste time learning the language of a people so weak as to let themselves be vanquished.
