Peoples of Middle-Earth in the Third Age of the Sun

The Southern Haradrim

The Apysani, Kirani, Tuktani, and Mûmakani

These are the people referred to in Godndor as the Southern Haradrim; only the Mûmakani distinguish themselves in Gondorian eyes, being known for the Mûmakil, the Oliphants. Despite their variety, these peoples have a common origin and share similar cultures. Physically, they are distinct from the Northern Haradrim, being taller and darker.

Apsyani and their cousins are a tall people, taller even than the Edain; perhaps the result of some past contact with a lost Avarin tribe? Their skin is dark, but their eyes are often blue or green.

Attributes:

Apysaic, Kiraic, Tuktaic, and Mûmakaic
This family of languages share a common script, possibly influenced by an unknown Avari system. Although they are distinct from Haradaic to the north, most know some Haradaic, for much commerce happens along the southern coast.

  • Outfitting Southern Haradrim Characters
Haradaic characters begin with two weapons, two sets of clothess, armour if they choose, and 20 silver pieces.
    Clothing
Men:Long-sleeved tunics over close-fitting trousers. Bright, rich colours are favoured; kohl is used to emphasise the eyes.
Ladies:Tight fitting bodice leaving the midriff bare; blousy trousers of gauze, silk or cotton; long, colourful wraps cover the whole in public; jewelry and makeup are heavily favoured.
    Weapons
Dagger, scimitar, short bow, composite bow, shortsword, spear.
    Armour
Most types of armour are available within the bounds of Harad, but only the wealthy afford metal armours. Plate is rare, and not as popluar in the heat of the south as mail and lamellar. The decorative nature of bezaint'd armours make them a popular choice too.
