Peoples of Middle-Earth in the Third Age of the Sun

The Northern Haradrim

The Haradrim are the peoples of the broad lands of Harad. The Northern Haradrim are the true Haradrim, the people who call themselves Haradrim; from the point of view of Gondor, everyone to the south are Haradrim.

The Haradrim are a hardy folk. Their ancestors rode through the deserts, living in a place many sane observers would call dead. Many still pursue the semi-nomadic lifestyle, but the power of Harad lies now in the cities. And it is within the great cities, such as Umbar, that the ancient struggle between the Haradrim and their oldest foe, the people of Nûmenor, continues on a daily basis. While the Black Nûmenoreans and Ciryedain dream of lost glories, the Haradaic princes dream of a future, and a native empire.

The typical Haradrim is dusky, with dark eyes and hair, and an aquiline nose. The Haradrim of the desert are horsemen, and often bow-legged.

Attributes:

Haradaic
Haradaic is the major tongue of Near Harad, the desert regions south of Harondor and Mordor. It is a very different language to those in the north-west, it's throaty character setting it apart, as does it's flowing script. That Haradaic was affected by the Elven languages at some point, like most human tongues, is most apparent in that writting; like Tengwar, vowels are noted by daiacritic marks over the consonants.

  • Outfitting Northern Haradrim Characters
Haradaic characters begin with two weapons, two sets of clothes, armour if they choose, and 20 silver pieces.
    Clothing
Long-sleeved cotton, silk or gauze blouse (white or cream) with embroidered (red, purple, gold) yoke and cuffs; cotton pants with leather panels up the inner leg for riding; stout leather boots; loose cotton tunic (white or black) falling to the knees or ankles, ornamented with tassels and embroidery at the neck, across the shoulders, and at the wrists of the wide sleeves; leather weapons belt; cotton headwrap with trailing portions that protect the head from the sun; gold braclets and neckalces.
    Weapons
Dagger, scimitar, short bow, composite bow, shortsword, spear.
    Armour
Most types of armour are available within the bounds of Harad, but only the wealthy afford metal armours. Plate is rare, and not as popluar in the heat of the south as mail and lamellar. Bezaint'd, with it's highly decorative nature, is popular as well.
