During the long migration of the Eldar to Valinor, many Elves turned from the path, either lost or unwilling to go any further. One group that refused to continue was the Lindai ("the singers"; sing. Linda) a clan of the Teleri. Their king was Lenwë, and his people and he, daunted by the mighty peaks of the Hithaeglir (Misty Mountains), traveled no further and settled in the wide green forests that spread from the eastern foothills.
Millenia later, one group of Lindai did pass over the Hithaeglir, through Eriador, and over the Ered Luin ("Blue Mountains"). Led by Denethor, the son of Lenwë, they came into Beleriand and pledged their fealty to Elweë Sindacolo, High-King of the Sinar. In return, Elwë granted them the wooded land of Ossiriand, which they named Lindon, Land of Song. They were known there as Laiquendi or Laegil ("green elves"), though the Noldor named them Nandor ("those who go back"). They were loyal vassals, and suffered horribly during the wars with Morgoth. Their courage and vigour in combat was well regarded by their allies, but they were never a metal working people, and their light armour and arms served them poorly when face to face with orcs clad from tip to toe in black iron. Their lord, Denethor, and his bodyguard were slain in one such engagement, holding back the horde while reinforcements came to the rescue of Ossiriand.
At the openning of the Second Age, Greenwood the Great and Lorinand were centres of Lindai life, and many Sindar fled thither, adopting Lindai ways in an attempt to return to a simpler time, to the life lived by the Elves before the met the Valar. However, by mid-way throught the age, under kings such as Ondoher and Amroth, Sindarin customs and language had subsumed Lindai culture, and Lorinand became Lórien.
The Lindai shared the physical appearance of the Teleri, with hair ranging from almost white to light brown, and a ruddy complexion. In height the men ranged from six and a half feet to seven feet tall; Lindai women were slightly shorter. Although they had never dwelt within the Light of Valinor, still they were an exceptionally fair people, sometimes frighteningly beautiful to the eyes of Men. Of all the Eldar, their woodcraft was the most canny, and their skills in the working wood and leather were unsurpassed in Beleriand. Especially valued were the fine long bows and spears made from the wood of the Mallorn tree.
Like all elves, the Lindai possess excellent eyesight, and can see as well under starlight as a human in daylight, and by the sun may see much better than humans; however, complete darkness robs them of sight just as easily as it does Men. They also share the near immunity, common to the Firstborn, to all forms of disease, and resist diseases at double their normal CON.
Attributes: | | The Nandorin Language Though seperated by three millenia or more, when the Lindai came into Beleriand, their speech, which came to be called Nandorin, was obviously an Elven language. The similarities between Nandorin and the colloquial Sindarin spoken in Beleriand were enough that no great barriers to commnication existed between the two peoples.
Their language, however, did not survive through the Second Age; Nandorin was supplanted by Sindarin. It only comes into the Third Age in a few scattered texts of those Eldar loremasters whose interest lay in the languages of the peoples of Middle-Earth, and in place names such as Lindon.

|
Nandor characters begin with two weapons (or a weapon and shield), armour of soft, stiff or rigid leather, two sets of clothing, and a handful of small gems worth 2 gold pieces.
|
|
Clothing
Warriors & Hunters: silk or cotton bluse in a pale shade; trim-fitting tunic of darker hued silk, linen, or cotton, in length from mid-thigh to mid-calf; leggings of sturdy canvas or supple leather; sandals or soft boots; much in the way of securing leather straps.
Others: flowing gauze blouse or smock in pale tones (often emboidered in similar colours), sometimes restrained by a gauze or silk sash, sometimes hanging free; silk leggings, flowing guaze pants, or a many-gored guaze skirt (in matching pale tones); heavy silk or guaze mantle fashioned like a cloak, with sleeves or elongated (shoulder-to-waist) openings for arms, usually falling to the ankles, frequently embroidered all over in a leaf motif; sandals.
|
| Weapons Spears, long bows. Some might have fine steel daggers out of Doriath or the Noldorin princedoms, but the Nandor are not a metal working folk, and all their tools were made from wood or bone or leather.
|
Armour Finely crafted leather provides some protection, while not restricting movement among the trees. Some warriors make use of wooden shields.
