Tips for Winning in Each Difficult

I thought that a good place to start was tips for winning at each of the difficulty levels of this game. You of course remember the difficulties are very easy, easy, normal, hard, and very hard. With those names it is pretty easy to see which is the easiest.

Very Easy

It may sound like a cake walk but very easy can be more difficult than you think. In this difficulty you basically have to be ready for an attack from any direction. The computer isn't very smart in this level but it is persistent. The attacks may come in great numbers at first, however they won't last long. The computer will attack even if it only has a 25% chance of winning. In later levels it will only attack when there is a greater than 50% chance. It is important that you protect every flank.

Once the attacks subside you should quickly move some troops out while making sure to protect your cities and military bases. The key is to take over as many enemy cities and military bases as you can as quick as you can. It doesn't matter if you lose some undeveloped pieces of territory. Without cities and military bases your enemies will not be able to build anymore troops and thus it will become very easy to take the remaining undeveloped territories and win the game.

Easy

The only real difference between easy and very easy is that in easy the computer is a little smarter with its attacks. As it says in the instructions, they only attack when there is at least a 50% chance of victory. In some ways this can make it easier than very easy because they won't try to attack you when they have troops adjacent to your start location. This early attack can kill you before you have a chance to do anything. What you do need to worry about in easy are weaknesses in your defenses. If you plan on keeping most of your troops on the borders, which is usually a good idea, you have to make sure that they can't break through. If they break through they may be able to take a lot of your territory before you are able to contain them.

You can't use the same strategy in easy as you do in very easy, because the computer will stop attacking when it doesn't think it can successfully go any further. It will wait until it builds up enough troops to continue advancing. You have to increase the troops on your side of the border to the point where you have a higher attack strength than they have defensive strength. That way they won't want to attack you, and you will have a good chance of beating them if you attack. The more troops you have the better off you are! That is sort of a universal truth in War on Lithon, however one troop has been known to defeat an army of many.
