Story: A race of reptiles once inhabited Earth, but when Shinnok's war scared them away with the cloud of darkness for centured, he scared them into a realm called Zaterra.
Thousands of years ago, when Shao Kahn took over Zaterra, he enslaved the race of highly intelligent reptilian humanoids. Over the years, they were driven to near extinction, until all that remained were the bodyguard Reptile and the Raptor Khameleon, who knew about Reptile, but Reptile didn’t know about her.
In 1993, Reptile was appointed bodyguard to Shang Tsung during his tournament of Mortal Kombat. He served his purpose well, but letting Liu Kang survive long enough to beat Shang and Goro was definitely a mistake. After Liu Kang won the tournament, Shang went into a rage, fearing the wrath of Kahn.
To appeal to his master, Reptile arranged the capture of Sonya and Kano and gave them to Tsung, who in turn gave them to Kahn. Kahn was pleased and spared both their lives. Then they began to prepare for the second tournament. Reptile developed his art of spitting acid and using powders and potions to become invisible to the human eye.

Shang Tsung entered the tournament under orders from Kahn, so Reptile entered to make sure that none harmed his rejuvenated master. Unfortunately, the Humans escaped the Outworld with their lives. By now, Shinnok had finished his unholy mission with Sindel's soul, so the Outworld girded up for war.

After Sindel's rebirth, Princess Kitana killed her twin sister, Mileena. With the onslaught of evidence, the High Courts of the Outworld were forced to find Kitana guilty of treason and set the date of her execution. Kitana did the only thing she could; she fled into the Mother Realm.
Kahn feared that she would get close enough to Sindel to inform her of the truth, that she was actually queen of Edenia and had killed herself to keep herself from a life with Shao Kahn.
Jade had been trained as a huntress, and after an exemplary performance in the second tournament, was promoted. She had also been a friend to Kitana. Kahn ordered Reptile and Jade to hunt down Kitana. To keep Jade loyal, Kahn ordered her to capture Kitana alive. But in fact, he was using her hunting skills and knowledge of Kitana to get Reptile close enough to end the princess's threat once and for all. In return for his services, Kahn would resurrect Reptile's extinct race. Reptile was only too eager to agree.
The pair of hunters confronted the renegade princess. Jade then betrayed Reptile, attacking him, and leaving him for dead, while running with Kitana back to destroy Kahn.

Khameleon found Reptile then, she healed him and together they escaped the doomed Outworld after assisting in Kahn's demise. Khameleon informed him of the truth, that Kahn had hardly the power to resurrect his species, and the emperor knew that. Reptile was infuriated and, with Khameleon's help, committed heavy accounts of genocide.
Reptile and his lover, Khameleon, were banished to the Netherealm for their atrocious crimes. There Reptile met Shinnok, and joined his army of Darkness. Then, they waged war on the Elder Gods. Reptile knowing all the while that if Shinnok were to gain the power he sought, resurrecting Reptile's race would be all too easy.
