Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi
Gandhi was a non-violent protester whose many famous sayings have influenced humanity even today. His journey started on October 2nd 1869 when he was born, the youngest of six children, in Gujarat. Rajkot was a small town in which Gandhi was born. There, Gandhi learned his life lessons that later shaped the future of a nation.
When Gandhi was only 13 he was married. His parents arranged this marriage as was common in Gandhi's hometown. His wife, Kasturbai Makanji and him lived together, but Gandhi did not know how to be a husband so he looked through some writings to find out how to be one. He "learned" that good husbands need to lay down the rules so he tried making one. When he learned that his wife was disobeying him, he yelled at her. She just replied calmly teaching Gandhi that cool, calm reasoning was sometimes the best route to solving a conflict. Gandhi would use this lesson many times later in his life.
When Gandhi's dad died in 1885, the family went through many economic problems. Since nobody else except Gandhi had a good education, Gandhi went to England to learn. There he was exposed to many wise intellectuals. When he decided to go and attend a case at the Supreme Court, Gandhi wanted to travel first class due to his so-called status due to his training in an English school. When he tried riding the train, he was thrown off due to the fact that he was "black". Gandhi reacted with anger at first but realized that it would not get him anywhere. This is one of the moments in life where he realized that a nonviolent approach would be best.
