Skyla

One upon a time, in a far away land, lived a catterpillar named, Skyla. This was no ordinary catterpillar; this catterpillar had no legs. Therefore; to travel, she had to sing a song. She had the most exquisite and unique voice ever heard by all the insects nearby. M. Grenouille, the french tree frog who lived across the tree, was one amongst those who heard her sing. He was the most fascinated with her voice. He promised to help her travel to wherever her destination may be as long as she sang her song to him every morning. Skyla was a little hesitent at first because she had never sang in front of someone who admired her song as much as M. Grenouille did.
M. Grenouille had a warm heart but was getting very old. As the days went by, he could no longer help her travel. One morning, as Skyla ended her song, she noticed that M. Grenouille had not come out as he usually did. Skyla found this unusual and called Daddy Long Legs, the oldest living inventor around, who then called Ant Arlene whose husband, doctor Terrantula, was a well-known doctor. Doctor Terrantula hurried over as fast as he could to see what all the commotion was about and like was expected, M Grenouille had passed away. Skyla was devastated when she heard the news.
Immediately after his death, she went to apply for wings. (Daddy Long Legs helped her with this one) The head of the Cocoon department, Mr. Wingmaster, refused Skyla's request because she had no legs. SKyla was very sad and felt lonelier than she ever had before. She was the first catterpillar denied of her right to have wings.
FOr days, she refused to sing or to speak to anyone until one day, Daddy Long Legs insisted on seeing her. He said he had some good news. At this point in time, Skyla was discouraged and did not believe anything good to come from anyone. That's why it took a lot of convincing on Daddy Long Legs's part. Daddy Long Legs guaranteed that Skyla could get legs because of a new experiment he had been working on. For weeks, they tried to make legs for Skyla and after much work, still hadn't succeeded. A shell- like substance of white goo appeared entangled in a tree branch instead. But that was all; no legs!!
Skyla was through with trying new things to get legs. She started to accept the fact that she would never be like any other catterpillar. All she wanted to do was sleep so she asked Daddy Long Legs to take her home. As they started to gather their things, it started to rain. The rain turned into a fierce storm with wind blowing things over. Skyla was scared and didn't know what to do. Daddy Long Legs had an idea. He helped Skyla into the white shell. He figured it was much safer for her there because she had no legs and wouldn't be able to get anywhere.
The rain eventually stopped and everyone wondered where Skyla had gone. They all knew it was dangerous for a catterpillar to be caught in a storm especially if she had no legs.
Weeks went by and still there was no sign of the catterpillar. The forest animals and insects were very worried.
One day as they were holding their usual weekend picnic, a butterfly flew around them excitedly and happily. Doctor Terrantula adjusted his lenses and sure enough, it was Skyla. All the insects and animals there were fascinated by her beauty. Skyla had blossomed into a beautiful butterfly. After all those weeks she felt alone and vowed never again to sing, she sang her song again. All the animals were fascinated with her voice.
The End.
