Blitz
There's a great new game from Midway which has taken the game of football and laid it firmly on its ear. This is a rock-em, sock-em version of football that's comparable to Midway's basketball slugfest, NBA Jam. It is.....Blitz!
Choosing a Team
Obviously you'll have to pick a team to play as. I've found that the Packers are probably the best overall, but Dallas, San Fransisco, Denver, New England, and Tampa Bay (yes, Tampa Bay) are strong as well. For a challenge, you might try a weaker team like Chicago, Indianapolis, or Atlanta.
Offense
There are really only four plays you need out of the playbook of 18, and those are Da Bomb, Sweep Right, Screen, and UTB Deep. Usually you will want to run rather than pass, even though the game encourages passing and the computer passes liberally. Passing is usually very dangerous, especially against the better teams.
Da Bomb
This play isn't very successful as a passing play unless you're against the Medium Zone defense (three linemen, four defensive backs arranged in an arc). If they have this set, then they'll lay off the middle reciever, so you can throw it to him and gain beacoup yardage.
Against other defenses this is a pretty good running play which doesn't always work, but if it does it can get upwards of thirty yards. If the defense is set so that there's three men on your recievers and no one on the left side, then run to the left. Otherwise, run to the right.
Sweep Right
Obviously this is a running play. To get the most yardage out of this play, drop back to the left, and then toss it over to the waiting runner on the right. Don't let the runner cross the line of scrimmage until you get to the sideline; since you can't run out of bounds (only jumping will accomplish that) get as close as you can. Turbo run down the sidelines and try to stiff arm anyone who gets in your way. This play almost always nets at least 15 yards.
Screen
This play is utilized similarly to the Sweep Right. Drop back and toss to the waiting runner on your right. Since he'll be behind the line of scrimmage when you throw it, it will also be classified as a running play. This also usually nets 15-20 yards.
UTB Deep
This play is run very similarly to Da Bomb, with running left and right as needed. It also does well against the Medium Zone, and if you go up against a Suicide Blitz or Goal Line defense, it works even better because you can throw a quick pass to anyone and they'll all be in front of the line of scrimmage. Good for two-point conversions and against goal-line stands.
Defense
The best defense to use at all times is the One-Man Blitz. Change the player you control to the one who will blitz (just hitting Change Player once will do it) and then, using Turbo, charge into the backfield at the quarterback. Usually you will record a sack, and if not then sometimes you will deflect the pass (remember, they almost always pass it). If the computer manages to get off a pass, your defense will sometimes pick it up instantly and slam the receiver for little to no gain. Obviously this strategy isn't foolproof, but it works very well.
Codes
These codes codes are entered on the "Today's Matchup" screen, and are represented by the symbols at the bottom of the screen under each player's side. First push the buttons the correct number of times and then point the control stick in the appropriate direction. You may enter any number of these that you wish before the screen goes away.
Note: These do not work on every version of the game
