Robert was the black sheep of his family. While he was growing up Robert shunned the playmates provided by his parents in order to escape into the wide world. At an early age Robert learned that there was more adventure to be had outside the walls of his manor. On the streets he learned the vital skills that allowed him to survive. Eventually he was disowned by his father the Marquis Arnoud d' Le Croix when he stole the heart of the daughter of the local baker.
Robert took his rapier and wits from the manor and never turned back. In the town of Crieux Robert ran into a beautiful woman, Marie Val Jean who wielded a sword as well as she wielded her beauty. Robert was fascinated by her use of a style that he would eventually call his own: Tout Pres. As he learned to fight from her he fell deeply in love with her. Unfortunately his love for her was unrequited, and seeing that he would never have the love he wanted Robert left for the town of Dore.
In Dore Robert fell in with a group of bandits that utilized his natural charisma and his noble skills. Robert quickly rose in rank with the gang until he led the group. Because of what happened in Crieux, Robert had a tendency to throw himself into the middle of things ignoring his own well being. This led him to become one of the toughest bandits in town.
Once he rose in rank in town Robert decided to go for broke. He saw that Dore was limited in profit earning potential, and so he tried everything to get his hands on a ship. All his schemes seemed to blow up in his face until one night he was in a card game with a Paix captain Porthos Le Rouge. Robert had all of the captain's money and decided that that if he ever had an opportunity this was it. Robert bet all he had won, his possessions, and his gang against the captain's ship and the captain's coat. In a spectacular hand Robert won.
This gave rise to his ship L' Vengeuress Rouge (The Red Avenger). He hired
his men, who could sail, to crew his ship. While working on gaining a crew
Robert bumped into Gerhard, Veronica, and Rolf. After inviting them to join
his crew they were given a mission from the Willscap trading house. The rest
is history.
