Not yet a production mech, this 'mech was rebuit from
the burned out hulk of a Berserker by techs under the
direction of a Mechwarrior who had gained it through
salvage; it had nearly been destroyed in battle, as it
became a sitting duck when the Myomer Acceleration
Circutry went haywire, locking up the Hip Actuators The
goal was to configure the mech the way it should have
been manufactured in the first place. Named after a
legendary Terran Lumberjack of fantastic size and
strength, hero of many tall tales on the North
American continent.
The owner wanted more firepower, and increased armor if
possible. The refurbishment of the Guardian Electronic
CounterMeasures system was made optional as the owner
had not found it to be of much use in battle. Also the
removal of the MASC system was mandated, but not at
the expense of mobility. This pretty much meant the
installation of Triple Strength Myomer, and the generation
of enough excess heat to use the myomers properly.
First, what was left of the risky, restrictive, heavy, and
finicky MASC system was ripped out, along with the
wreckage of the Anti-Missile system from the center torso;
this freed up tonnage and space for an aditional Sutel
Precision Line Large Pulse Laser in the center torso. The
long range punch of the Defiance 1001 Extended Range
Particle Projection Cannon was refurbished. Also, for just
in case the hatchet is damaged, a hand actuator was
mounted under the ER-PPC in a fashion similar to the
Wraith, which is also fast for its size. We decided to rip
out the ECM, and the practically cosmetic flamer. A Half
ton of armor was added to the Mech.
With so many large Energy weapons, creating enough
heat was not a problem. Keeping the optimal heat level
for the Myomers, was the hard part. We decided to leave
the Heat Sinks in the engine alone. Selective group firing
of weapons, along with movement creates almost enough
heat. The delicate accounting of heat is accomplished by
trio of small lasers which fire automatically to maintain
optimum temperature in the myomer. The emphasis on
pulse technology is the response to the targeting dificulties
encountered at the operating heat levels of the design.
Where possible, systems are clustered tightly together,
shielding the most vital systems in the likely event of an
armor breach. These changes increase the volume of
close-in firepower, which the stock Berzerker is lacks.
The TSM refit speeds up the mech without associated risk
of damage to the actuators by MASC. It also increases the
amount of damage the hatchet does.
The entire redesign results in a synergy, turning the liability
of heat into a benefit, while at the same time increasing
the firepower of the Mech, and doubling the damage of
the main weapon. Despile thise features, the design was
not designed for Arena Dueling. It was intended as a close
in fighter with at Least one compainion in the dedicated
role of fire support/diversion, while the Bunyan thrashes
each individual enemy. Despite this, the first test of the
design was in single combat with an Atlas that was
modified for close combat. Both Mechs fired everything
they could at each other while closing range, ending up
face to face...... Upon which the Bunyan crushed the
head into the torso.
We have no further test data on this design, as we have
lost contact with the owner.
Currently we are looking for a company willing to
manufacture this design under license.
