5-A-Side Football - Match Day 1 (15/2/04):

At long last, I played my first official 5-a-side football match at Power League, just a few blocks north of me.  Our team is named "Buckfast Brigade" (if you don't know what Buckfast is, it is basically MD 20/20 on steroids...definitely not stuff to be underestimated) in dedication to teammate Paul's tonic wine-induced antics (see "Paul Award" photo on bottom of main page).  Our team consists of myself, flatmate Paul, and his mates Irvin, G.S., and Graeme. We did not have any subs, but then again...we don't need any!  Due to a solid effort on my part, and excellent goal support and superb defence by everyone else, we got the 3 points in our opener, winning 9-6.  Thanks to the work of the two-cans-of-beer-bribed, wee ginger-haired one (flatmate Doug), there are photos for all to see!

BONUS!:  Since my camera has video capabilities, I decided to give it a shot during this game.   In This Clip, you can see some solid ballwork and passing which leads to an Irvin goal.  It is in Quicktime format, so if you are unable to play it, open a browser and jet on over to this site to download Quicktime.

The mighty Irvin warming up. Me collecting a lucky rebound off the far side goalpost.  The posts saved me twice that night.
He may not look it, but this man has a cannon for a foot. Getting the ball out of our end.
Breakaway save in the first half. Paul with a cheeky goal in the second half.  He was trapped near the corner and guys on the other team were heard saying "He can't go anywhere!"  So Paul just shoots it thru the keeper's legs.
G.S. and the legend himself, Paul. Me taking a shot from "up top."  I'm not sure, but I think this one got past me.  We had some bad passing in back and the guy intercepted it and blew it past me.  Oh well.
Action along the boards. Graeme keeping the ball in the opponents' end.
Paul with the opening goal. Rolling ball out to the side.
G.S. about to score. Me flicking the ball out to Paul.
All of us in this shot. Me collecting a low shot.
Me hanging back, keepin' it REAL. :P The other team trying to find an opening.  As the second half went on, our defense got better.  At one point (I'm sure it was right after this photo) guys on the other team were cursing at one another.  Psychological advantage: Buckfast Brigade!
I have no idea what I was doing here, but I'm sure it was important.  (Note: Those keeper pants have lots of padding...my arse doesn't stick out that much!) Taking a shot during second half.
