Clyde FC vs. Queen of the South
(22/11/03):
This was my first visit to Broadwood Stadium, home of
division one Clyde FC. The "Bully Wee" played host to
then-division leader Queen of the South from Dumfries. I went
along with flatmate and rockstar Gavin to watch this match.
Starting from Glasgow Queen Street Station, we took a train to Croy,
then walked the five miles to the stadium, during which we took an
ill-advised (my bad) shortcut through some brush. With feet
fairly soaked from the shortcut, we made it to Broadwood in pretty
good time (I can't remember exactly how long it took, but it wasn't
bad at all). There was a pretty good turnout for the match and
the atmosphere among the Clyde faithful was incredible. A
sizable section of the Clyde supporters were very vocal, chanting
many very profane, but spirited football chants.
Anyway, here is a
match
report from Clyde's website. Also, you'll probably wonder
why there are so many empty seats in these photos (though our side
was nearly full), which
this link describing the current financial crisis within
Scottish football should help explain. Although not listed,
but evident in these photos is the 10,000 seat requirement for teams
in the Scottish Premier League (SPL). Currently, Clyde is to
begin building a new stand to conform to this rule. Otherwise,
if they do not meet the 10,000 seat requirement and they win the
First Division, they will not be promoted to the SPL for next
season, as what happened to
Falkirk a year before.
