The way I look at it, the whole point of the band U2 is so that Bono
can destroy civilization as we know it. The arguement goes like this:
First of all, Bono starts off a band and uses the name "U2," which is
one of those annoyingly witty names that are clever at first, but get
less funny every time you hear them. (a la "The Be Sharps" from the
Simpsons) He then hires adequate musicians to make tolerable music,
which he hides behind a message of peace in his homeland, so all of a
sudden it's politically correct to listen to them. Then, gradually,
over the years, as his fan base grows, he slowly makes the music worse
and worse, until people all over the world exclaim, "I hate U2!" In
all English-speaking nations, this is heard as "I hate you too!"
However, since confrontation is also politically incorrect, the phrase
will boil in the gut of whoever hears it, "Do they really hate me, or
is it just a misunderstanding?" Eventually this will breed so much
doubt and mistrust in the most powerful nations (read the US and UK)
that it will spill over into the non-English countries. It'll probably
degenerate into nuclear holocaust long before people get to physical
combat.
Failing that, he'll just finally give in and put subliminal messages
in his songs, simultaneously telling his listeners to give the music
to their friends, while secretly hating them. Same effect.
