Introduction: If you don't feel like going from website to website don't worry everything I learn will be on this page just words no pictures. Have to check the diagrams on the websites if you forget something but i'll put links on each point on this page think of it as the index..
Here we go for our study notes:

This is the work from the "Terms" section on the homepage
Rudder: Is used to steer the boat

Hull: Basically the boat

CenterBoard: Centerboard is normal stainless steel anymore and basically just on the hall. Its job is to keep the sail moving foward instead of sideways when going upwind. Pull up the centerboard half way when going downwind so it can make your boat travel faster and create less drag since your not going from left to right so you don't need it.

Upwind: Is when the wind is comming from the front of the boat. When sailing in upwind you travel from left to right since the wind going agianst you, the jib pushes the wind aside so you can sail still.

Downwind: When wind blows from behind the boat "you raise the spinnaker so the wind pushes against the spinnaker so you travel faster in a straight direction". Usually more fun going with the wind.

Mast: A long bar about 26" tall, the mast is whawt holds up the sails. (Note boat is 19" tall) don't get those 2 confused.

Jib: The small sail on the sailboat. Its job is to move the wind sideways when your going against upwind so you can still sail. (You can't sail against wind.
Boom: The boom goes from the mast to the back of the boat. It has track, which the main sail goes in and holsd the main sail out so it can catch the wind.

Spinnaker pole: Well ok the spinnaker pole is used to hold the corner of the spinnaker out so it fills
<All the important Notes are all the term website don't be lazy and go check it out>

This information is from the "Diagram of a lightning class sailboat" link

A lightning Class Boat is a 3 man boat, means it needs 3 people required to get the job done better.

The 3 Jobs of the sailboat
-The Jib man (front man) of the sailboat controls the sail trim of the jib and he sets the pole and he jibes it.
-The middle man (Spinnaker Man) Controls the trim of the spinnaker going downwind and is in charge of looking out for other boats and puffs going upwind.
-The skipper is one that is in control of the boat steers it and trims the main sail.

Knowing what side is front and back
-Left side is the back known as the "aft" of the boat
-Ok right side of these pictures is the front known as the "bow" of the boat.
