I will be able to tell my children that I did something worthwild, that I participated and added to something which makes it possible to build bridges, computers, that allows us to make space shuttles fly, cure and track diseases, power our homes, allow economists to predict as best possible the economy and cars to drive. I will be able to tell my children that thier is more to life then simply braun and tedium and that thier is no problem that cannot be solved with the human mind - and be able to show them that this is true. I will also be able to say that I stood against ignorance of people who believe that something is useless because they do not understand it, or see beyond what is infront of thier noses, but yet enjoy to make comments like these. I will be able to tell them all this and more - what can you tell you're children about your occupation then that is so far reaching and of great depths that it makes mathematics useless? And yes, I will smile, because thier is nothing that beats the sense of achievment or the thrill of solving a new interesting problem, and in mathematics the problems are only limited by the power of my own imagination.
Wolfram Research's Mathworld - Exceedingly usefull !!
