With the release of the dreaded Steam Tank comes intricate questions related to how it works and how to make it stop working. Luckily we have Alessio Cavatore, a member of the Warhammer Design Team and the creator of the Steam Tank rules, to answer all of our queries.

If the Steam Tank is charging and its intended target 'Flees!' can it redirect the charge?
Of course, if the new target has been revealed by the first one fleeing (in other words, if the Steam Tank would not have been able to charge it before the flight of the original target).

Do pikemen get +1 Strength when charged by a Steam Tank ?

Yes, they do.

Would firing from a hill down at the Steam Tank count as an above hit or is this just for attacks that lob their shot?
The "hit from above" rule is limited to war machines attacks like mortars, stone throwers etc. (i.e. those that use the scatter dice) and spells such as the Comet of Casandora, Forked Lightning etc. It does not apply to normal missile fire, magical missiles, cannons and other machines that do not use the scatter dice or any close combat attacks (even by Giants...).

In the variant Steam Tank that looks like a hybrid War Wagon, there are Trainee Engineers standing on the deck. Are these guys vulnerable to poison?
Any poisoned missile attacks that hit by rolling a six need to be randomised separately. If they are randomised against the crew they wound them automatically, but if they are randomised against the Steam Tank they still need to roll to damage with their Strength.
In close combat there is no problem, since the enemy can chose to attack either the Steam Tank or the Engineers.

How does a Helblaster shot work against the Steam Tank? I mean, do you count the total number of hits and roll separately for each one with S5 (or 4) or do you consider one artillery dice as one hit and the number it rolled as a wound modifier ?
The first solution is correct.

What effect does the Executioner's Axe have on The Steam Tank? For 80 points, surely it deserves something!
Nothing, sorry. Think of a 100 point Runefang!

What is the Toughness of the Steam Tank? Several items/spells use the opponent's Toughness to decide the Strength of the attack; The Rune of Might, Slayers, Sword of Heroes to name a few.
They don't give any advantage to models fighting the Steam Tank.

Does the use of the Steam Tank have to be agreed upon by both players ?
No.
