Apex Mountain, British Columbia, Canada

Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains, two large lakes, several super vineyards and great weather (seldom does it snow in the valley) lies Summerland, BC in the Okanagan Valley.

It's a vacationer's paradise and has some of the best wines in North America. A favorite past time for the locals is floating in the channel between the two large lakes.

The Canadian Jeep Jam is held at Apex Ski Resort at about 6000 ft and the trails go up from there.

I knew the trails might be a little tougher than normal when three trail guides showed up in their vehicles sporting 44 inch tires, super wide axles, all wheel steering and "9000" horsepower engines).

This muddy spot proved too much for two of the "big guys". A couple of "little" Jeeps made it fine. Bigger is not always better.

On the other hand, with front and rear wheel steering, four corner hydraulic/air suspension control (keeps the vehicle level) and finesse it is easy. The Jeep is nicknamed "marshmallow".

The highlight was the boulder pit. It's about half the size of a football field. Roger had a bit of airtime on this one. He took an early out but returned the next day and drove from bottom to top.

Of course, Shrtkut had to take a turn. This was the beginning.

For a "little" jeep, Shrtkut did good! Lots of help from spotters.

We made it 3/4 of the way and the dinner bell rang (really!).

The Recoil Trail (which is Winchester Trail backwards) has several off-camber, slippery tight turn and steep rocky spots. A couple of folks did slid off the trail. Fortunately no one rolled over.

There is even some mud to play in (or stay stuck in).

We'll be back to Apex in the future. The best are the people!
