Hokkaido White Mousse Pocky
Contains: 1.75 ounces/56 g; 5 sticks/pouch x 3 pouches = 15 sticks
Intended Flavor: whipped cream mousse on a cocoa-flavored stick
Review Date: October 2, 2004. First review!

The Mousse Pocky line counters complaints that Glico sometimes skimps on the frosting. Mousse Pocky is absolutely covered with a very thick layer of frosting. This doesn't work to "whipped cream" Pocky's advantage. The frosting is so thick during the first couple of bites that its very mild flavor becomes absolutely overwhelming -- not a good thing.

Flavor of what, you might ask? I honestly have no idea. I know what whipped cream smells and tastes like, and this is perhaps a distant relative of whipped cream. However, it's very sweet and tastes like artificial vanilla, making it close enough to count. I generally don't like things that are bland and super-sweet, but this manages to land just below "too sweet," and the relatively unsweetened cocoa stick is a great contrast when its flavor takes over as the frosting thins out near the top.

This is a little bit bland by Pocky standards, but the novelty of the Mousse line and plain frosting make for an unusual Pocky experience. It's worth a try.

Smell
Exactly like it tastes: Sweet vanilla. Maybe a little too strongly.

Good crisp stick, but all the frosting feels a little strange.
