Dragoons were not widely used in the original version of Starcraft. They are huge, expensive and clumsy moving. But, Broodwar has made the Protoss dragoons worth it, by lessening the cost to 125 minerals. The dragoons are now a major part of every Protoss assault force. The dragoons have 20 explosive damage and quite a long range of attack. Upgrade the singularity charge right away to make the dragoons very effective. Remember, dragoons are clumsy and large so make sure their passage is free from obstacles.
- Upgrade forge ground weapons because they give +2 damage.
- Do not use dragoons in very small numbers, use them in groups of 6 or more.
- For a massive dragoon assault, construct cybernetics core and many pylons. Take an early mineral resource spot for an expansion. Conserve gas and make three to four gateways. Continue pumping in the dragoons, upgrade range and damage.
Send the dragoons near the enemy base with a probe. Construct a pylon and 2 to 3 shield batteries and 3+ photon cannons. Attack with the dragoons and carefully retreat if damage heavily to recharge shield. About 20+ dragoons will toast the enemy base if handled this way with batteries.
- Combine dragoons with zealots, send in a few zealot to absorb the damage and let the dragoons ravage the opposition.
- Dragoons and dark templar are also great, let the dark templar sneak in and the dragoons to deliver the firepower. Use the dark templar to destroy tanks and other heavy artillery.
