Name: Guraquay Age: 34? Home Planet: Sriluur Sex: Male Species: Weequay Role: Zealot
Personal History: Little is known about Guraquay's early past; it is known that he grew up on the hard streets of Meirim City on the Weequay homeworld of Sriluur, and was mostly likely in one of its many street gangs that constantly fought turf wars with their rivals, the Houk. However, at some point he was struck with a sense of duty to the Weequay god, Quay. He left his gang and family and moved out to the wilderness, where he lived off the land in devotion to Quay. However, his hard life on the streets seems to have affected his views; he interpreted that the only way for Quay to be supreme was for his people (the Weequay) to fight against "his enemies." To this end, he began fashioning a massive sword and training himself in the art of the Weequay martial art Xeramatchu, the knowledge of which he recovered from ancient tablets he found. As he grew to be a better fighter, his ego grew too; he soon considered himself to be "Guraquay," translated in Basic as "The Hand of Quay," and that he was the avatar by which Quay would rid the world of infidels. He took up the name (his original name is forgotten), and began to call upon the power of Quay to help him in his duties.
Unfortuanetly, his violent prayers were heard not by Quay, but by the Dark Side. Being too egotistical to recognize the evil, he began training himself in the ways of the Dark Side as well. He was helped on this path by a new event that would give him a goal to fight. When the Rameseum Crew renovated the ancient Weequay temple of Uruutche'zediev, immediately assumed that a new, dark force had come to challenge Quay. Choosing the assassination droid Ramses as his target, Guraquay declared a jihad against the "Metal Demon of Death, Urrutche'ramzev." He began attracting followers and teaching them in the ways of Xeramatchu, instigating a cult of ninjas called the Shadow Talons, who were soley dedicated to eliminating "foes" of Quay. His fight against Ramses and the Crew was often inflated to mythic levels, with the Crew being attendent demons, Guraquay's Black Sun allies as shifty, backstabbing but stupid and useful pawns, and the battles with Ramses being battles between demigods.
Though the truth in these stories is often stretched to ridiculous levels, they still began to spread among the Weequay population. Guraquay became a modern-day legend among many Weequay; his ultra-violent modus operendi, xenophobia, and hatred of droids were glossed over as a story of an amazing hero fighting for his values and his god. Though many learned the truth, there were certain aspects of his story that remained in the Weequay conciousness, and though they didn't condone his actions, he was still a folklore hero.
Guraquay oftened partnered with Black Sun (though he was not particularly willing to) in order to go after Ramses and the Crew. He worked with Vigo Lonay and Vigo Moff Neomen extensively in these matters, though he liked the dealings about as much as a root canal. He would have been happy to slay all the offworlders, but he knew enough to work with them. When he wasn't working with Black Sun or chasing Ramses, Guraquay often fought other foes of Quay (in other words, those whose particular actions he didn't condone). After the Crew abandoned the Rameseum, he moved the Shadow Talons in to the old temple as a memorial to his victory over Urrutche'ramzev's "corruption of the purity of the temple into an outpost of evil," though he was driven out later by Ramses and Zolar.
Guraquay finally gave up the ghost on Tarshon, when he finally managed to defeat Ramses in single combat (using much of his Darkside abilities). However, the explosion that resulted when Guraquay plunged his sword into Ramses' WST-M pack caused a massive explosion that sent the already half-dead Guraquay dead and plumetting out of the 40-story building. His remains were never positively identified, though his corpse was stolen by the Shadow Talons out of the morgue and interred in his original hermit cave in the wastes of Sriluur. His sword rests point-first in the dirt over the grave, the only marker of his death. There is a legend that only a Weequay who is determined to carry on Guraquay's traditions can pull the sword out; this is bullshit, as the dirt is lightly packed and would easily allow someone to pull it out. So much for legend. Though there is some truth to the following legend that those who steal it are haunted by Guraquay's spirit...
Many Weequay still carry on the use of Xeramatchu as a recreational and useful sport; though it is greatly bastardized from Guraquay's version (and even more so from Vezirutche's), it is still a useful skill on the dangerous streets. This is the most lasting mark Guraquay has made.
Personality: Guraquay is violent, egotistical, dramatic, and dangerous. He has no tolerance for non-Weequay, and little for Weequay who do not share his moral values. He is stubborn, pig-headed, and often ignorant of technology or other people's points of view. Once he is set on one of his quests, he will pursue it relentlessly with the utter conviction that he is right. It doesn't help that he is also EXTREMELY talented in melee combat, with blinding speed and a devestating preciseness to his sword attacks (tenants of Xeramatchu) that can turn an enemy into mincemeat in seconds. In addition, his amazing strength and endurance allow him to absorb that which he doesn't dodge. His only weakness is that he can often be manipulated into believeing that a certain group is actually an enemy of Quay, though he will steadfastly believe that he is the one doing the manipulating of the "shifty offworlders." All in all, Guraquay is a terror in melee combat, and fully deserves his status as a legend.
Appearance: Guraquay is a massive, muscular Weequay. He towers over many humanoids, and the conviction in his eyes can serve to intimidate those who don't respect pure physical power. He wears the trappings of a Weequay priest, though they are shortened down under his desert cloak for combat purposes. His most notable possesion is Quay'fanthos, a massive 6-foot long two-handed sword that Guraquay fashioned himself in the desert. Even with its size, it is very light and is wielded with blinding speed, and its sharpness has led some to believe that he imbued it with Sith alchemy (though this is in debate). He also wears the skull of the deceased Weequay High Priest Vezirutches (which he recovered from his burial site) as a helmet, which he believes imbues him with the power of his ancestors (though Vezirutches would be horrified to see the tenants of Quay being so grossly misinterpreted). His long braid of hair (a Weequay tradition) reaches down almost to his ankles, and weaved with razor-sharp strands of monofilament, for an extra, unexpected weapon.
