Word of Life
Hello everyone and welcome to "Word of
Life."
Okay, so maybe all of us don't
believe in the same thing, but that's just life, isn't it? But even
though religions may seem vastly different, the morals taught are often
the same. All in all, we're not all that different. In time, I reeaaally hope to
have people's opinions and maybe they're own theories on religion.
I'm Catholic, but have my own little side beliefs. I think beliefs
are so interesting and I hope that this part of my website can grow.
So if you would like to include something from your own religion, comments
on what is here, or basically...anything -- please E-MAIL ME and let me
know :) Thank you so much.
And, now, here is some scripture
that I found to be incredibly moving. I also have some of my own
comments afterward.
Please choose from the list:

A Disciple's Love

John's Conclusion
New Heavens
and New Earth
- Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth;
for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea
was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down
out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband;
and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, "Behold, the
dwelling of God is with men. He will dwell with them, and they shall
be his people, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe away
every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall
there be mourning nor crying nor pain any more, for the former things
have passed away."
-
- (Rev:21:1-4), The Holy Bible,
Christianity
-
- -For me, the main point of this selection
is that God chose to dwell among his people, he loves them and
will be there. And even though people wonder how there could be
a God because horrible things happen, that's the devil, not God.
Things happen for no reason sometimes, but God will help with the
emotional pain if his help is accepted. I'm not going to sit
here and preach to you, but I will say this: the only way you can
trust in God is if you want to. I can't force you to, your
parents can't, and neither can you. It just has to...happen.

A Disciple's Love
As the Father has
loved me, so I have loved you. Live on in my Love. You will
live in my love if you keep my commandments, even as I have kept my
Father's commandments, and live in his love. All this is tell you
that my joy may be yours and your joy may be complete. This is my
commandment: love one another as I have loved you. There is no
greater love than this: to lay one's life down for one's friends.
You are my friends if you do what I command you. I no longer speak
of you as slaves, for a slave does not know what his master is
about. Instead, I call you friends, since I have made known to you
all that I heard from my Father. It was not you who chose me, it was
I who chose you to go forth and bear fruit. Your fruit must endure,
so that all you ask the Father in my name he will give you. The
commandment I give you is this, that you love one another.
(John:15:9-17), The
Holy Bible, Christianity
-You see, you're not
imagining it, love IS the greatest thing in the world--to give OR
receive. Equal love is always the best, and, yes, love does hurt
when it's not equal, but love is love and there is nothing better.
And love, my friend, does come from God.

Flowers
Let none find fault with others; let none see the omissions and commissions of others. But let one see one's own acts, done and undone. Like a beautiful flower full of colour but without fragrance, even so, fruitless are the fair words of one who does not practice them. Like a beautiful flower full of colour and also fragrant, even so, fruitful are the fair words of one who practices them. As from a great heap of flowers many garlands can be made, even so should many good deeds be done by one born a mortal.
(051-055),
Dhammapada, Buddism
-I'm not an expert on
religion--especially ones other than my own. I want to make clear that my opinions
are based on my interpretations. If I am totally wrong in how the
certain religion interprets the scriptures, then I apologize and would
like to be e-mailed. I will not simply change my opinion, but I will
post how it is intended to be interpreted. (Hopefully this could
start a message board!) So, to continue...to put this into everyday
language: Don't look for the bad things about people, don't worry about
what they forget or what they order. Pay attention to what you
do and what you think about doing. You can be good-looking
but without having a personality you can be a hypocrite. You can be
good-looking and have a personality and not be hypocrite.
People can come together and do great things as long as you do good things
on your own.
John's
Conclusion
It is this same
disciple who is the witness to these things; it is he who wrote them down
and his testimony, we know, is true. There are still many other
things that Jesus did, yet if they were written about in detail, I doubt
that there would be room enough in the entire world to hold the books to
record them.
(John:21:24-25),
The Holy Bible, Christianity
-What a way to end the
Book of John! I thought this was incredible--the Bible is basically
a big newspaper. Not everyone could read and write during Jesus'
time, and so not everyone could write down what happened. The
combination of word-of-mouth and things written first hand form the
Bible. The most amazing thing is that Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John
all wrote very similar accounts of what happened. In sum, people
that never even knew each other somehow all wrote about the same thing and
recalled the same events. Incredible, incredible.
