Not all of Chaos Space Marines are raving loonatics devoted to some dark god. Some worship something
more abstract - chaos undivided. These marines bear no marks of chaos, and form the bulk of most chaos
forces. I often play with an army composed of nothing but evil and vengeful chaos space marines. An army like
this can be quite fun, and surprisingly isn't at a disadvantage when compared with other chaos armies. Without
expensive marked marines, you can build a shockingly large force of efficient killers. This page is a collection of rules for marines who aren't devoted to a single god, and for vehicles and weapons that can be used by any chaos army. |
I'm working on an article on creating new chaos gods (hopefull for the CJ). Thought the list might enjoy the section on demons: Your new god may need some demons. Not all gods need demons, some are not powerful enough to deserve any, and some don't have any conventional demons (for instance they might only be used in possessed vehicles, and bound into demon weapons). Feel free to make up whatever you want for demons. The following rules are only meant as a guideline to inspire you to make some cool lesser demons. I am not including greater demons -- most lesser gods would only have a handful of greater demons, and so they would only rarely take to the mortal battlefield. In fact, your god himself may only be as powerful as a greater daemon of another power! LESSER DEMONS ............................... 26 pts M WS BS S T W I A LD 4 5 5 4 3 1 5 2 10 SPECIAL RULES: All the normal demon rules apply, including the 4+ demonic saving throw. FEAR: Lesser Daemons cause fear. UPGRADES: When designing your rules for demons, you will want to personalize them to suit your god. Here are some ideas for upgrades you can give demons. Don't make your demons too powerful; more than three abilities can be overkill. Don't be afraid to come up with your own new upgrades. Look to other lesser demons and these upgrades for inspiration.
SUMMONING POINTS: These demons will need to get on the table somehow. You could say they can only possess your models, or you could give them summoning points. Use some common sense when you decide how your demons will gain points. Here's an example. Meltalax is the god of meltaguns. Your army could gain 1 summoning point every time you fire a meltagun, or 2 pts if a meltalaxi marine fires the meltagun. So to summon 3 Meltanators (lesser demons of Meltalax) you would need to fire 6 meltaguns, or have three Meltalaxi marines fire their meltaguns.
MODELING DAEMONS: Anything goes. The more outlandish the better. Scour the GW line - feel free to use epic scale, WHFB, and Necromunda miniatures in addition to 40k ones. The simplest conversions can be the most appropriate. Head swaps are easy, and can change the character of a model. Arm and weapon swaps are also fairly easy. Multiple limbs, heads, and tails are all fine. Color schemes can also turn normal looking models into otherworldly demons. Paint cloth with shining silver. Paint skin glowing blue or burnished gold. Paint metal pale brown. Experiment. Use naturalistic patterns with unnatural color schemes. Red and white tiger-stripes. Purple with yellow leopard spots. Demons are made of warp stuff; vibrant colors may be appropriate. Sample demon: Here is a bizarre and fiendish looking demon. Start with a WHFB Lizardman miniature (plastics will do). Replace the lizardman's arms with those from a plastic Genestealer. Remove the lizardman's head (if the lizardman is plastic the head will already be separate), and reattach it on the lizardman's chest upside down. Cover up the join by sculpting a wild mane with milliput. Paint anything but green (to hide the fact that it's based on a lizardman). |
"Chaos Space Marine vehicles have grown increasingly specialized and personalized over the course of the long war. Few have survived and those that have are often unrecognizable as STC constructs" - Codex Chaos That quote inspired me to chop up my old imperial tanks and put them back together as chaos ones. Chaos Space Marines really would do anything to their tanks - they aren't restrained by religious dogma and sanity like Imperial Space Marines are. They would do far more than bolt on extra armor plates and bolters. So here are some vehicle cards for chaos vehicles of any chaos power. They add more variety and chaos to the Chaos Space
Marine arsenal. WHEELS ............................... 10 points This Chaos Space Marine tank has had its tracks replaced with large all terrain wheels. Without skilled techmarines, chaos vehicles often fall into disrepair. When the tracks on a tank break down, many Chaos Space Marines replace them with wheels rather than repair the complicated track mechanism. These wheels allow the tank to move faster, but it is not capable of traversing rough ground as well. The vehicle no longer counts as a tracked vehicle. Instead, it counts as a wheeled vehicle. In addition, it moves faster - 1 inch faster at each speed band.CHAOS TANKS ONLY |
HAVOC LAUNCHER ............................... 40 points This chaos tank has been outfitted with a havoc missle launcher -- the same type that some Chaos Dreadnoughts carry. The missle launcher is attached to the tank's hull or turret, and can be fired by one of the tank's crewman instead of his ordinary weapon. Alternati vely, a marine riding inside the tank may operate the havoc. The Havoc missle launcher has a 360 degree arc of fire, and follows all of the normal havoc rules in the chaos codex.CHAOS TANKS ONLY |
