The Useful Tools of Sub-object:

You should now be able to edit your mesh on a Sub-object level. There are a few main editing tools that I use.

Sub-object Vertex:

You can move, rotate and scale selected vertices. The main editing tools we will be using are:

Selected: This welds vertices that are selected within the parameters that are set by the number to the right of the button.

Target: This lets you weld selected vertex/vertices to a not selected vertex.

Remove Isolated Vertices: Removes vertices that are not being used.

Collapse: welds all selected vertices into one vertex at the mid-point of all the selected vertices.

Soft Selection:

This lets you select a vertex or a group of vertices and move all the vertices a round with less effect further the vertex is away from the selected the area. This area of the effectiveness can be changed by changing the fall off.

Sub-object Edge:

You can move, rotate and scale selected edges. The main editing tools we will be using are:

Divide: This is the most important tools you will use in your low poly modelling life. This cuts an edge in two by adding a vertex.

Turn: This is almost as important as the Divide tool. This changes the diagonal the edge makes. One of the things that artists are getting lazy with nowadays. Mainly because it is not as important as it was a year ago.

Select Open Edges: This shows you were you have edges that are exposed.

Collapse: Works in the same way that vertex collapse works.

Soft Selection:

Works in the same way that vertex Soft Selection works.

Sub-object Face, Polygon and Element:

Most option are the same between faces, polygons and Element.

You can move, rotate and scale selected faces and polygons. The main editing tools we will be using are:

Hide: This hides the selected polys of the mesh.

Unhide All: This unhides the hidden mesh.

Faces and polygons.

Extrude: This extrurudes selected faces.

Make Planar: This will make the selected faces flat and like a flat plane.

Collapse: Works in the same way that vertex collapse works.

Soft Selection:

Works in the same way that vertex Soft Selection works.
