Captain's Private Log

Day 2 Month 4 Year 4 of the Voyage
Today we landed on Ey'un Island in search of buried treasure. It is rumored that the Isle of the Unicorn was where the mages of Tor'Ala stashed their mystical artifacts. We could have gone north to the Dragon Coast, where it is much safer, and finding gold is a gauruntee, but magical items are far more profitable than gold any day. Poor Smee.. if we had only known! The men are setting sail and even now I can feel the Blackwater Deep coming to life as the anchor is raised and her sails catching air. We were lucky that we only lost one.. one good man. Smee, my first mate, went with a small party of men into the lush green forest. Shortly after they encountered a small group of what they describe as small children, if children came if every color of the rainbow. They report seeing a bright light, and when it faded Smee, who was at the fore of the line, was gone, and a small creature was in his place. One of my men, a Fri'Rikur native, called it a "hampster", and said it was nothing but a pest. The men however, brought it to me, fearing and hoping that it was infact Mr. Smee. Luckily I had a cage for the scared little beastie, since I was not about to let it run around and get into the food, or perhaps get eaten by the cats. I don't know what I'm going to do with it. It doesn't show any signs of being Smee.. I'll keep it, and next time I'm on the east coast I'll have it sent to the Temple to see if the holy ones can tell if it's my first mate.

Day 5 Month 4 Year 4 of the Voyage
Today the hampter talked. I had been coaxing it to eat a piece of hard tack (I would have given it cheese but there is none to waste on a rodent,) and it spoke! It said "Ketil you beanhead, I'm not eating that ofal." Now you understand I was thoroughly surprised when the thing spoke to me, so my throwing the cage across the room was entirely warented. Perhaps it is Smee! We'll see later when it wakes up. If I didn't kill it. Oops.
