Playing Around With Quality

Nikkor AF 50mm f/1.8D
I just wanted to see how good the picture would turn out if I took a portion of a picture and enlarged it. My camera is a 6MP camera, and photos produced are 3000X2000 pixels.

I was surprised at the amount of detail that was visible up close. I could even see the texture of the fabric material. That was very impressive. Now my question is, is it the lens, or is it the camera? Any insights?
