necromancer

The NECROMANCER class is a spellcasting class whose magic derives from death

and the processes of putrefaction. They are not strong in physical combat,

but acquire magical powers that give them a significant edge. Necromantic

magic, generally speaking, drains vitality from living creatures, and restores

life functions to unliving creatures. Sauron, in the Lord of the Rings, would

have to be considered the ultimate necromancer. While not necessarily evil,

most necromancers tend to become so, for no other reason than that the use of

their powers tends to corrupt them.

NEWBIE

To help reduce instances of harrassment and annoying behaviour, new players

entering the game only have access to a limited number of commands before

their character is approved by an immortal. How long this takes will depend

on how busy the immortals currently are (assuming, of course, that they

are currently logged in). We urge you to be patient when starting a new

character. This policy will help to ensure that your time spent playing

here is not ruined by those whose sole intent is to spoil the enjoyment of

others.

As a new player you can type COMMANDS to show a list of what you can access.

Help is available on all commands. If you are unfamiliar with Diku/Merc/Envy

MUDs you might like to read this help while you are waiting for your

character to be approved.

NIGHTSHADE

See POISONS.

NOFOLLOW

Syntax: nofollow

NOFOLLOW toggles whether or not you can be followed by other players.

See CONFIGURE to find out which toggle is on and which is off.

NOSUMMON

Syntax: nosummon

NOSUMMON toggles whether or not you can be summoned using the SUMMON spell.

See CONFIGURE to find out which toggle is on and which is off.

NOTE

Syntax: note list <number

Syntax: note read

Syntax: note read <number

Syntax: note + <message

Syntax: note subject <string

Syntax: note to <to-list

Syntax: note clear

Syntax: note send

Syntax: note show

Syntax: note post

Syntax: note format <number

Syntax: note move <number <board

Syntax: note remove <number

Syntax: note retain <number

Syntax: note write

NOTE LIST lists notes which you can read. If you specify a number, only

notes from that number onwards will be listed. NOTE READ reads a note.

NOTE SUBJECT sets the subject line of a new note. NOTE TO sets the list of

recipients. The recipient ALL means all players, and the recipient IMMORTAL

means all immortals. You can address a note to all players within a particular

clan by using the clan name as one of the recipients, but it must be surrounded

by square brackets - []. Use NOTE + to write message lines onto the note, one

line at a time. NOTE SHOW shows your note in progress; NOTE CLEAR starts over.

NOTE POST or NOTE SEND posts your note for reading. Posting is not automatic.

NOTE FORMAT tidies up the text of an existing note.

NOTE MOVE shifts an existing note to a new board.

NOTE REMOVE removes the entire note if you are the sender, or just removes you

from the to-list if you are a recipient.

NOTE RETAIN toggles the retention status on the note you specify. Notes with

retention status on will not be purged by the system to make room for other

notes. This command is only usable by Immortals.

NOTE WRITE is a somewhat simplified method of writing notes. If you use this

command you will be prompted for all the relevant information. However, you

cannot see what is happening to your character while writing a note in this way,

so be sure you are in a safe place before you do so.

See also the help on the BOARD command.

NOTIPS

Syntax: notips

NOTIPS toggles whether or not you get shown a TIP when you enter the game.

See CONFIGURE to find out which toggle is on and which is off.
