Welcome to the Hammer's Castle Armory.
Yeah, you can bet this was a while ago when you see that we're still wearing the old pickle
suits rather than the newer and much cooler camouflage BDUs ( Battle Dress Uniforms ) that were being
phased in.
I went to basic training in Ft. Knox, KY, and I'm proud to say that the rumble of tanks at 2 AM has
never been as reassuring since. It's also the only time in my life I've been able to fall asleep while walking.
If you want to know what a Physics Guru dreams when he falls asleep walking in Ft. Knox, KY, you'll have to email
me to find out.
The picture above is of me and my buddy John Kacvinsky, one of the greatest martial
artists I've ever known and an all-around good guy. We both had full academic scholarships from the Army, we
went to the same martial arts club, and we went to basic training together.
Off the bus in Ft. Knox, we decided to work the numbers so that we could be in the same unit. The problem with that
is figuring out the Army numbering system quick, getting into place, and hoping it works, all with a drill
sergeant ( not the most patient of people with new recruits ) screaming in your face.
In our rush we didn't get it exactly right. We ended up in the same battalion and company but a different platoon
because our numbering guess was off by one.
Oh well, even a Physics Guru can't get lucky all of the time...
