We've all heard of cannoning an opponent. It's the concept of building cannons near and around an opponents base in such a staggered manner, that no early game army can counter it. However, all of us have tried and tested this great idea, only to have our backs brocken by a fast gateway, zergling, or overzealous workers. But I have found a much more effective strategy... I call it aggro cannon.

Aggro cannon

I started the game with the intent to humiliate... After all, it was a 1v1... I had decided on a high templar, dark archon swarm. To start, I'd need to have strong defenses. So I was going to build my forge. But I knew my opponent had chosen protoss during the game starting screen, and I was quite afraid of a rush. I decided to scout. So after I built my main pylon, I went to my choke, and built a second pylon where I would place my cannons. Then...

What's this!? I just saw my opponent's probe!? He's next to me? Aw shit. That's bad news... I had to change my tactics, and quickly at that... I ran inside his base to check out his tech progression: nothing. So I built a stall pylon, to make him think I was going to cannon him.

Then it hit me: why don't I just cannon him? He's got only workers to defend!

With this notion, I built 2 more pylons, and began the construction of my forge. I assumed he'd kill atleast one trying to stop my cannons. He attacked my first pylon, as expected, but he was unable to kill all three. I then ran around back and forth until I had 300 minerals, so that I could build cannons in sync. My stall tactics paid off, as my first cannon warped in before his zealot did.

Soon, he was quite angry with me. He began saying random insults and angered phrases:

While he did pop out two zealots, his probes were all but dead. Meanwhile, at my base, peace reigned and my probes simply, and stupidly, mined more minerals. They had an easy game. My poor scout probe did all the work, including attacking a zealot with its own fusion cutters. Then I lost one cannon that game after two zealots attacked it...

But since my cannons murdered all of his probes, who foolishly attacked the rutheless cannons, he was really screwed. But my two original, completed cannons soon shut off his gateway, and provided cover-fire for my still helpless warping cannons.

Ironically, two of his zealots could have erased every probe in my base (assuming my 18 or so probes lose to his 2 zealots). Well, sometimes, newbies like me thank their lucky stars. Besides, he'd have to kill my cannons before they took his base out.

I think he was a little angry...

Game time: 4:16 seconds.
