I finally did it. The perfect game. I stalled until I got the needed
units. I successfully fought off tank siege and m&m with only a handful
of units (like I always do, like a madman) and I hit him with a successful
Arbiter drop. Unfortunately, as perfect as this game was, he never really
saw the full power my tactic. I had about 5 arbiters each with stasis
waiting around, but he left...
But either way, I won.
Trial #3 - Arbiter tactic
|
When I joined the game, 1v1 bgh no lag, I found that somebody had
already joined before me. I took the moment to /stats both players. The one
above me was decent - he had a 5-4-1 win/loss/disc ratio. On the other hand,
the host had a 5-3-0 ratio. Neither were terrible. The host suggested a free
for all... I agreed to that. I love free for all.
Then the other player *mysteriously* left after agreeing to play. Odd. I bet
he got booted. Anyway, the game started, and I asked him how good good he was.
"I'm ok," said my opponent =[dilf]=bloody. Alright,
I'll take that. Turns out he'd been playing for a year. Btw, what a weird name...
Seemed new enough. I'll trust him on this. So I decided to proceed to my usual arbiter
strategy.
I started in the lower middle (6), and I immediately scouted the 8 and 4 positions and
noted that he wasn't there. I built my pylon and probes and moved a probe to my choke.
I built an unusually late cannon at my choke, and
was relieved that he had yet to attack me.
I then continued my quest to Arbiters with a cybernetics core and Citadel. My choke was lightly
guarded by 2 zealots, a few cannons, and a shield batter. I had everything I needed to stall like
crazy. I continued my exploration of the map until
I found his sorry Terran ass. bloody had yet to build any marines, or so I thought.
(check the replay) I moved inside his base and built a pylon in his economy to serve as
a cheap scout/nuisance mission.
He made "quick" work of my pylon.
After a long silence, and my good recogisance work, I had expanded to the 10 position,
hoping he'd never find it.
I built a Templar archives and researched level 1 melee attack. I was doing slightly
worse than I should be doing, and began to fear a siege. I quickly researched Psi storm, and built
a dark templar, knowing it would buy me precious seconds. I also added two more templar and another
dark templar to my queue.
But peace is never permanent... He soon discovered my base after my failed attempt to
intervene his scouting marine he found my 10 base. Shoot. I knew I should have built a buffer cannon in the middle.
Oh well.
Soon, a big army followed: an army of marines, tanks, and (gasp) medics.
I suddenly realized I hadn't research Psi storm at all! I had research mind control! SHOOT! So I began my
Psi storm research...
I had to improvise... I took two of my defensive dark templar from my main base and I destroyed
the whole army with them. I was smart so I sent in one at a time. The poor fool wasted
two separate scans. I began cannoning my inner base, knowing drop ships could come any day now. I also
built a dark archon with two dark templar I had milling around at my upper base. I had sufficient stalling
dark templar.
Sadly, the second attack brought along with it a science vessel. He made quick work of my stall
dark templar. I had to patiently wait for my dark archon (which I made knowing he'd bring a lone vessel) to get its precious
150 magic so I could steal his vessel and use my dark templar (and irradiate).
I was getting murdered... But when I finally got 150 magic, I stole his vessel... Just as my last
dark templar died... Damn. But soon, new dark templar and high templar arrived, and
psionic shockwaves destroyed his tanks. Btw, his vessel didn't have irradiate or EMP... =( Oh well...
Then he began harassing my main base.
First, he brought a cloaked wraith and flew it to my lower left expansion, dodging my ever extensive (not really)
cannon field. He almost killed my science vessel... That bastard!
I started making fast cannons and his lone wraith was quickly destroyed.
But as his wraith saw its fiery death, so did my lazy zealots who got murdered by multiple siege tanks.
My main choke was getting attacked!
I knew I had to storm his tanks because I had no
dark templar ready to go. I used my arbiter's secondary ability (to cloak units,
who uses that garbage anyway) and moved it up along with my templar under it. I stormed
his assault force. It was shameless destruction.
He commented:
My impatient army sat waiting for my orders to attack. i was starting to get nervous.
My smart opponent had even mined the area on the way to his base (Image compliments of
the replay). He used vultures! That's a sign of a really good player, or a really bad
newbie...
My cool arbiters which I had been saving, finally had 150 magic. I was ready.
My arbiter flew away.
His tanks were all but neutralized. He was down to a vulture and two tanks. I felt safe for
the moment. Just to warn him, I asked him if he was as my Arbiter flew
through into the middle of his base.
I waited for a response, but didn't get one. So I answered for
him. I told him that he was going to: The rest is history.

And then he left... The jerk didn't warn me with a "gg" or
"I lose." Damn bastard.

Poor f-minor now stands
(as of Jun 24, 01) with a "good" record of 12-29-2. Damn it.
As a side note: my opponent's SCV was stuck here the entire game, moving back
and forth, trying to get out. (Image and information compliments of the
replay)Man he was good. Not. I guess he really only had played for
as long as he said...
