I Gorthor have been wanting to write up some of my recent battles to get some
feed back and help with army selection and deployement. I have finally gotten around to
doing it, so here it goes:
I thought I'd tell you about my latest defeat to the wood elves(never beat them in my
life).
It was a 1000pt battle fought this past weekend. It was a rather quick battle(about 4
turns) only because I was completly and utterly trashed!!!
Wood
elf army(approx)
5 warhawk riders w/spears(unit included general)
10 archers
10 archers
10 archers
20 spearmen(with command)
5 wardancers
(army contain some magic items...don't remember what they where)
BEASTMEN(ME)
Beastlord(sheild, light armour, crown of command(50) and heart seeker
sword(50) 303points
Unit of 24 Gors(included general!!! Musican and standard bearer with dread
banner(50 points) 427points
Unit of 24 ungors(included command unit had spears and sheilds) 194points
Unit of 15 ungors with hand weapons and sheilds(standard and musicain) 75
points
*Note* normally my army would have included a chariot, but I decided not to
field one(big mistake)
*Note* we were playing without any magic users
Total points 999
Well, I won't bore you with details, so I will make this short and snappy!!!
Deployment:
My deployment was pretty straight forward...I had my unit of gors and my
unit of ungors with spears beside each other and I had my unit of ungor
skrimishers out in front partically blocking my gors.
The wood elf general had his spearmen in the middle with a unit of archers
on either side. He then had his other unit of archers way out to the
left(aiming at my ungors with spears) . He had his wardancers behind a unit
of archers and he had his 5 warhawks way in the back(oviously going to fly
high).
Turn one: Wood elves won toss
-all there archers aimed at my unit of skrimishers completely killing the
unit(partly due to bad dice rolls by me)
-there 5 warhawks fly high
-there glade guard stayed firm(slightly wheeled to face my gors)
-the 5 wardancers stayed where they were
Turn one: Beastmen
-down to two units(gors with general and ungors with spears)
-they both did a march move getting ever so closer to the wood elves(I was
about 14 inches away from elves)
Turn two: elves
-5 warhawks dropped down behind me to screw my march move
-all the archers took aim at my ungors with spears, killing ten of
them(luckily my ungors passed there break test)
- wardancers stay staionary
-glade guard didn't move
Turn two: beastmen
-my unit of ungors moved forward(down to 14 ungors left)
-my unit of gors move closer
Turn three: elves
- glade guard move up(which allowed my gors to charge them this turn)
-all the archers killed 8 ungors(the unit broke and fled back into
warhawks, which finished them off)
-his wardancers moved so they could get into combat next turn
Turn three: Beastmen
-my unit of gors charged into spearmen(killing many and won the combat, but
the unit did not flee)
Turn four: elves
-all 30 of his archers shot at me, his wardancers charged me in the flank,
his warhawks charged me from behind and his spearmen fought me from up
front, I lost 19 gors partly due to some HORRIBLE dice rolls my unit of gors
was knocked down to about 5(including general)
Turn Four: Beastmen
-my general and the gors broke the spearmen, but it was little to late as
the elves snatched another victory from me!!!

army selection and tactics would be appreicated !!!
