IGO Mourning Page.
What is IGO?!
Many people who visit this page will not have any idea about what it is based
on. To put it simply, Intelligent Gamer Online was a web-based videogame
junkie's dream. To be more specific, it wasn't the site itself which
was so great, but the forums. Within those message boards, one would
meet many other dedicated gamers, all who came across as being extremely
knowledgeable. This made it always pleasureable to peruse those
aforementioned forums. Intelligent debates were often used, although
there were some slight mishaps (KiiLA, gotta hate him!).
What Happened to IGO?
Unfortunately, Ziff-Davis purchased Sendai Publishing, IG and EGM's publisher. The @#$%!s (bums) at Ziff were "kind" enough to terminate both IG the mag, and IGO, their petty hopes were that EGM would be their ONLY video-game mag, appealing to everyone. While I have no qualms about EGM, IMO their plan of action was abhorrent.
Who used to use the Forums?
This list is far from complete, e-mail me for additions (since my memory isn't especially great).
KiLLeR
Gotenks (me)
Mr.Person
Travis Perkins
Giant Robo (sigh)
Blue Bomberman
bgwilla
KiiLA (shudder)
Sorry about the lack of names, help
me if you can.
Who remains contactable at this
point?
After IGO was shut down, communicating with the other IG vets became imposssible,
but yet, many (okay, a few) have been recovered, generally through the blessing
that is GEO.
KiLLeR
Mr.Person
Travis Perkins
Gotenks (me again)
What made IGO so great?
This is a difficult question. To begin, there were not many messages posted, only about ten a day, versus GEO's ~150. Secondly, all messages posted were maturely and responsibly written. We only had one big argument, and that was with the "Jag Rules" posting "KiiLA" (not to be confused with KiLLeR). A third element was that, since there weren't many posts, we all began to know each other, each of us had our own little "roles". KiLLeR was the newsman, posting latebreaking news as it happened, for all to see. Giant Robo was, well, see the below section for more about him. And I pretty much just posted and replied, debating over specs, games, CB vs. Nights vs. SM64 and various other topics. For many of us, IGO grew from a simple hobby to an obssession (well, maybe not, but it was great).
Who's Giant Robo?
To be short, Giant Robo was a great guy. A Tekken 2 obsessor, he was open, kind and always polite. He was never biased, and made it quite clear that to him, all systems were on an level playing field. When KiiLA was pestering KiLLeR, Giant Robo came to his side, along with Mr.Person and myself. My eventual goal is to find Giant Robo, and invite him to come debate at GEO, or perhaps my future forums. Not to sound too much like Unsolved Mysteries or anything, but if you have any information on this man's whereabouts, Please HELP!
