Lizae
Women and Femininity
Goddess of Women
Description of Deity
Lizae is the matron goddess
of women and the feminine side of Creation. Hence, Lizae is more
powerful than many other more-worshipped deities.
Deity Symbol
A maiden with one breast bared.
Priesthood
Healers and midwives often
worship Lizae, as do fertility shamans and some diviners. Women who
seek to better the lot of their gender in various male-dominated areas
of Tangorea (most notably the Zenkan and Teunorkan homelands) also worship
Lizae. Lizae has a militant order, known as the Sisterhood
of the Rising Moon.
Requirements for Priesthood
Female, Wisdom 14 or higher, Constitution 10
or higher.
Forbidden From Priesthood
Males, in all but a tiny
handful of cases.
Appearance of Priests
Lizaeans care little for
social conventions on dress--or other ways. In areas where Lizaeans
may practice openly, they tend to dress as climate dictates, believing
that there is nothing wrong with the female body that needs to be hidden,
unless for keeping warm. Of course, in areas where Lizaeans are forbidden
(especially in Zenkan regions), Lizaeans will often masquerade as members
of other professions, in which case they dress accordingly.
Temples
Lizaean temples come in
many forms. In most areas, temples are rather discreet, and, in hostile
areas, usually behind a storefront or facade of some kind. In one
Zenkan town, for instance, there is a Lizaean temple underneath a tavern;
the sympathetic barkeep's daughter was sold into slavery under the harsh
Zenkan code of law.
Ceremonies/Holy Days
As is typically the case
where many women dwell under one roof, the monthly cycles of Lizaean priestesses
within a temple tend to be synchronous; this determines when ceremonies
are held.
Powers of Priests
When fighting for women
who are in danger (other than themselves), a priestess of Lizae gains +1
to hit and +10% on damage. Once per week, a priestess of Lizae may
call her matron for increased abilities. Once
per week, a Lizaean may raise an ability score by two points plus one point
for every three levels of experience.
This increase lasts for one half-hour, plus 5 minutes per level.
To raise a score above 19 requires two points per point. To raise
a score over 22 requires three points for every point.
Lizaeans
gain a Constitution hit-point bonus as fighters do. Note that, should
a Lizaean raise her Constitution into bonus territory, she immediately
gains the appropriate hit point bonus, retroactively. However, when
the effect wears off, the hit points are lost, too. Should this reduce
the priestess below 0, she falls unconscious. If this reduces her
below -10, she must make a system shock roll. Failure means the priestess
dies; success means she drops into a coma until d4 days after she is healed
back above 0.
Special Spells
A Woman Scorned medium-high level
(5th level).
This spell only functions
against male targets. Moreover, the target must have committed some
sort of major injustice against a woman (rape, for instance). If
the target is touched unwillingly, he has an increased chance to resist
the spell (+2 to saving throw).
However, if the target is touched willingly--even if said target does not
realize the touch is part of a spell--the target's chance to resist is
markedly lower (-3 to saving throw).
If the spell takes effect,
no immediate effects result. However, the target receives a curse
2d4 days later. Possible curses include reduction of a selected ability
by one-half, a 30% chance to stutter uncontrollably whenever attempting
to speak, an intense phobia, a powerful enemy, and so forth. The
curse remains until dispelled, or until the subject rights the wrong that
he committed.
Rules/Limitations of Priests
Priests of Lizae are duty-bound
to come to the aid of any woman who is threatened with harm because of
her gender. Of course, such aid need not/cannot always be overt and
immediate...
Armor and Weapons
Priests of Lizae may use any weapons or armor
they choose.
Spell Spheres
charm, divination, healing, protection,
creation, summoning.
