The Story Behind the Barbarian

The story of Caramon begins quite some time ago. Although not that long ago with respect to other Immortals. When Caramon was of the proper age, he left his village and travelled to the famous city, Makilor. After speaking with a few locals about how to make a living, he decided on using his ogre strength to his advantage and become a warrior.

The city was full of wealthy adventures who didn't mind helping another soul. So it was no time at all before Caramon had a new long sword. With a bag full of meat and two water bottles, he set off to settle a score with the Mole King.

For weeks Caramon murdured mole men and women. The cavern floors turned a bright crimson as each tunnel was searched by the ogre. The mole people soon provided little resistance as Caramon's experience grew. Soon even the Giant Worm and the Mole King himself fell to his might. Elk, bear, and lone Zyrankian Scouts also fed his bloodlusted younger days.

The murdous nature took a strong hold one day as he ventured into the trading city of Baul Naran. At first the merchants were too strong and it took large groups to bring one down. But Lyrana, the guild master, was a good teacher to the young warrior. It wasn't long before the city merchants were nowhere to be found.
Poor old Nabok in his Bed and Breakfast Inn, was favored by Caramon and his motley crew of followers. He learned the way of the barbarian and the beserking rage took him over in almost every battle. While the merchants were in hiding, he roamed the lands looking for new pieces of armor and better weapons.
He enjoyed the ruined city of Denilos and the Valley of Undead, where the foolish lamias and ghasts brought the fight to him.

One day, while being chased through an enchanted forest, he came across a fountian being guarded by a shadowy figure. While trying to investigate the mystical water, the ghost attacked. Caramon and friends were fighting for their lives. The battle was long and bloody, but well worth the losses. As they drank from the liquid their hearts beat faster and their thoughts became clearer.

It was close to this time that Caramon became a member of the infamous clan known as NightBreed. The Warlord, Skarash, saw the potential in the younger barbarian. Soon the two were inseperable and Caramon spent most of his time learning of new areas and greater challenges. The fountain was also like a second home to Caramon. As he grew in experiance, the clan grew in number. With Skarash in the lead and Caramon at his side, NightBreed stood unchallenged.

The next few years past quickly as Caramon began taking on the most feared creatures in the land. Kestwick and Terra the Liches, were visited often by the brutish, scythe wielding ogre. The Tarr Overlord, Ogremoch, and the dinosaur T-Rex decorated his room with their heads. Some of the most worn paths were to Benny the Bartender in the destroyed city of Midgaard, the elephant graveyard, Hades the Ruler of the Underworld, and his spit flinging pet the Hydra.

It is unclear why Phaet, the supreme being, took Caramon into his pantheon. Whether to restore balance to the mortal realm or to give all the barbarians a god of their own. Maybe it was a reward for living his life without regard to the petty things. For taking on the unknown and not fleeing when friends fell at his side. Whatever the reason, Phaet's hand moved the day Caramon walked into the anti-magic room and Valg the serpent attacked. Knowing without any means of escape, he tried to take the demon with him to meet their maker, but it was not to be. As the last breath left his battered lungs and the darkness began to fill his eyes, he was taken up into the sky. Leaving the mortal plane forever and travelling once again with Skarash they took their place among the stars and became Immortals.

Caramon now spends his days watching over young adventures, and his nights testing the older ones. It is said he still has an open ear to the mortals. So if you see him wandering the skyline, barbarian or not, say hello and you will be greeted with a cracked tooth smile.
