Primal Rage Codes
The Urth is upon us!!

Primal Rage, one of my personal favorites in the arcade, finally (after two delays)makes it to the PlayStation. It brings most of the great arcade gameplay and graphics home with it, and is certainly the best conversion of PR to date.
The graphics in Rage are good, with some graininess, blurriness, and slight loss of color. They are approximately a 10 to 15% decrease from the arcade. The fatalities, however, look fantastic, with a few exceptions, notably Diablo's fireball (It looks terrible). Another noticable disappointment is the deletion of some blood during a few moves. For example, Sauron's move where he jumps on his opponent and rips their flesh off is replaced with Sauron jumping on the guy and nibbling on him lightly before
jumping off. A plus for this game, though, is the enormous size and fluidity of movement of the characters. Both are done extremely well.
The sounds are what they should be. Nice screams and roars punctuate the action, and the announcer's voice booms "Rage!" just like the arcade. The music is also pretty good.
For a 2-D fighting game, this disc is very original. No other game has fatalities that rival those of Primal Rage, which far surpass Mortal Kombat (all versions) and its clones. Also, the fighting style of holding buttons then tapping combinations is very innovative, as are the quick punch combos that surprise even the most skilled of players.
The controls in PR are surprisingly effective. With a complete moves list, you'll have no trouble mastering the game. However, the ability to find the preprogrammed combos(and see their hidden messages)as well as the ability to create your own nearly endless assortment of combos, really adds to the gameplay.
No matter how disappointed you may be that the graphics aren't exactly like the arcade, you'll find yourself being drawn to this game for its raw appeal. Nothing is as fun as Rage!!
