“You’re sure they’re Timewalkers and not the Timedancer’s family who visited us two years back?” a blue-gray wolf like gargoyle asked Leader.

“Brooklyn’s clan only knew of the one gate and thus only travels by the one,” Leader replied, “And there were at least five phoenix flares out there and around forty or so gargoyles were gliding around after the flames disappeared, Callie.”

“Have any of them spotted the castle yet and headed towards here?” another bluish British gargoyle, this one with the head of a horse, asked.

“I think they’ve seen us, Mizu, but they haven’t decided to investigate,” Leader scowled.

“Hey, don’t worry, Leader,” Mizu replied with a wink, “Remember, even we didn’t come right away when we saw the castle was our old home in ruins. The first thing anyone who joins up with Timewalkers is taught is that they must always be cautious, even in familiar territory.”

“That’s right,” Callie replied, “As our mum always said, ‘Be watchful and gather your resources, it may look like ya’r home but time will tell if it’s safe to be there.’ that’s what she always said… that and ‘I’ll take Earth any day to a space station where ya’ don’t have any air currents to glide on.’” Leader looked at the wolfish gargoyle oddly for the last saying while Mizu shook her head at her younger sister.

“Well,” Leader finally sighed looking out at where a few of the beings that they had been calling Timewalkers still glided about, the other had landed bellow the handful in the sky, “Let’s put their minds at ease. If you would, go out and call that clan in, they’ll be safer perched here during the day than out in those woods. It’s grown unsafe for any gargoyle to stay out in the woods what with the Hunter and his parties looking for one gargoyle in particular and crushing all others.”

“Thank the dragon Merlin placed that hiding spell on the castle that only gargoyles and those with good intentions can see through, wot?” Mizu replied. She hesitated before she spoke more, “Leader, I have a request.” Leader raised a tawny brown eyebrow at the horse like gargoyle, “I wish for my daughter Aisugriff to accompany me and my sister to the Timewalkers. She should get to know her heritage.”

“If it might keep her out of trouble, then do so,” Leader replied and eyed Callie as she opened her mouth to speak as well, “Jilly will stay here. She has only learned to glide and thanks to Griff showing off during demonstrations she nearly got the hatchling hurt. I do not want a repeat so soon.”

“She’s my own daughter!” Callie argued back.

“She is also young and an important member of the clan,” Leader replied, “even if she does find ways to get into a new trouble every night if not twice a night.”

“He has a point there, Sister,” the horse grinned at the wolf.

“Be quiet, water-head!” the wolf growled.

“Quit goofing off, Timewalkers,” Leader ordered of the two, “the sun rises in less than two hours and you need to get that clan here before then.” The two bluish colored gargoyles ceased their sibling bickering and went off to find Aisugriff.

“So why bring me along?” Aisugriff asked of her mother and aunt as she glided along with them, “Leader only called for the two of you, not me… not that I mind going to see if it’s Brooklyn and his family again… sure he was cute and all but I liked hearing his family’s stories… least those he’d tell us…”

“Griff, who put a shilling into you today?” Mizu asked of her daughter. Though Aisugriff wasn’t sure what a shilling was she knew what her mother meant by now when ever she said that.

“I just like hearing about these other times that he comes from,” Aisugriff swooned, “I wouldn’t mind seeing them myself one day… if I could that is.” The griffon like gargoyle missed the pensive look that passed between her aunt and mother. They’d heard that before and knew what might happen, inwardly Mizu feverishly hopped it would not.

“So why am I along exactly?” Aisugriff finally came back to her original thought.

“To learn of things, my dear,” Callie replied slowing some to look at her niece.

“And perhaps meet some of our old friends,” Mizu replied over her shoulder.

“Then why bring your sword, mum?” Aisugriff asked of the horsish gargoyle.

“You are nearly old enough to choose a mate and still as inquisitive as ever,” Mizu chuckled before finally answering, “It’s a precaution. They’re friendly, I know, but they might not trust us at first and I don’t want Callie to have to reveal things that only a few have seen.”

“Huh?” Aisugriff replied.

“I’ll tell you about it later, Griff,” Callie replied, “I hopefully won’t have to show anybody it… I can’t believe I was crazy enough to have it put there even.”

“Alright, now you really got me confused there, Auntie Callie,” Aisugriff replied. With a blue claw, Callie waved off her niece’s questioning and pointed ahead.

“No offence, dear,” Callie told her, “but don’t start questioning these gargoyles. They’ve likely had a long trip and need a place to stay, which we’re here to offer with something small to show the trust they should have with us.”

Without another word the trio went forth on their mission, Aisugriff and Callie flanking Mizu. Before them, ten gargoyles circled as if looking for something from the air. It was one of these gargoyles who gave a shout to the others about their approach. Six of the ten quickly dove for the forest bellow while four stayed aloft and spread out in a slightly aggressive formation; of the quartet there was only one female present. The female was red with a short dark mane of hair while at her right was a yellowish colored male also with dark hair, but much longer. Behind the duo, flanking the female on the left and the male on the right, were the other two males. The one flanking the female was two colors, a dark sea green highlighted in some areas with navy blue, almost black, skin. He sported a type of jagged beak face with long horns that swooped back from his forehead seeming to hold his wild feathery sunset orange and yellow hair in place. Flanking the golden male was a totally black male and the only one of the group who had no hair upon his scalp; all were the same age as Aisugriff. The four hovered waiting for the trio to come close enough to talk yet with a large enough distance to be able to maneuver if something went wrong.

“Be at peace, Timewalkers,” Mizu called out merrily, “We mean you no harm, only to offer our old clan a place to roost for the day.”

“Old clan?” the female asked a small frown upon her pretty features while the trio of males looked slightly apprehensive.

“We have never seen you in our clan,” the golden one replied with a bit of a bite to his words.

“Mizu!” Callie commented excitably, before her sister could reply to the male, “Mizu! Mizu! Do you see it? Do you see who they resemble?”

“See what, Aunt Callie?” Aisugriff asked totally confused. She’d always thought that her parents had always been a part of the last of the Camelot Clan and now they were saying that they had been a part of another clan all together.

“Hush, Griff,” Callie shushed her niece though she looked at her sister excitably. Mizu looked at the gargoyles before her hard.

“By the dragon,” Mizu gapped, “could it really be those hatchlings we saw hatch shortly before the gates took us to this time and where we live now?” Now the five “teen” gargoyle all looked confused.

“If my memory serves me correctly,” Mizu started again hovering and looking at the foursome quizzically, “You’re Okumen, Kibi and Tsukeishi’s shy looking daughter.” The red blinked startled, obviously recognizing all three names and surprised that somebody she didn’t know knew her and her parents. Mizu instead went on ignoring the reaction, “And you would be Keikan, Kagai and Salton’s son. And you’re obviously as furious as you’re parents insisted you’d be despite your huge balling fits back when you were still a babe.”

“I don’t cry!” the green and navy colored gargoyle growled angrily at the horse like gargoyle.

“Oh, me now, sister!” Callie grinned, “You, my friend, would be Ebric, and your friend behind you would be Daten. Wow, how they’ve grown!”

“You know us, but we do not know you,” the black one who was Daten replied in a friendly tone, “Who are you and why should we go with you.”

“I am Mizu and this is my sister Callie,” the horsish gargoyle replied, “we are former members of the Timewalker Clan, behind me is my daughter Aisugriff, she hatched here in Britain after we finally left the clan. You are near the Castle Camelot in the year 1025 AD. Some of our clan uses names, a number of the elders though do not. Our clan leader begs that your clan accept our offer for a perch for the day at least. These woods are not safe to turn to stone in anymore with a human called the Hunter running about smashing gargoyles in their sleep.”

“How do we know we can trust you,” Keikan asked eyeing the British trio again. Mizu drew her sword causing all the gargoyles aside from her sister to go into defensive moves.

“Mum?” Aisugriff asked alarmed only a moment before the gargoyle offered the hilt of the sword to the gargoyles before her. Okumen was still too startled to take the sword and so Ebric accepted the weapon.

“That is the sword that my mum and her own mum used while they were in the clan,” Mizu replied, “I received it upon her death shortly before we decided to stay in this time frame. As you know, it is tradition for any Timewalker Clan Member to carry the symbol of the clan somewhere on them or in cases like with my sister to have it placed somewhere on their body for their life.” While Ebric examined the sword the others looked at Callie who now looked very embarrassed.

“The Phoenix Shield!” Ebric murmured as he looked at the cross guard of the hilt. The others were quick to look.

“Uh, I hate to break up this great discovery,” Aisugriff suddenly interrupted to the annoyance of all, “but if we don’t get moving, say now, we’ll be turning to stone in the air or risking early deaths in the woods.”

“Call your clan together,” Mizu commanded of the younger gargoyles, “My daughter is right, the sun will rise within the hour.” The quartet nodded their understanding and dove low giving off shrill whistles and Okumen gave off a wildcat like roar. In no time the sound of crunching was heard bellow and soon forty odd gargoyles were joining the seven who were already in the air.

“Follow us,” Callie called to them, “the castle is invisible thanks to some magic of an old friend to help protect us, yet you should be able to see it as well.” The large party of gargoyles surged forward following the trio of Good Samaritans to the place they would roost for the day.
