Here are a few shots of my weekend in Vienna! Jill was the perfect person to introduce me to the local theater scene, and we saw "Othello" at the world famous Staatsoper (State Opera House) and Johann Nestroy's "Der Zerissene" at the Burgtheater. We also visited the Christkindlmarkt, a famous Christmas Market set up in front of the Rathaus (city hall), ate original recipe Sachertorte at the ritzy Hotel Sacher, and visited Schönbrunn, the Habsburgs' summer palace. Unfortunately, I don't have digital pictures of everything, but here's a taste of Vienna, a city I hope I'll be visiting again sometime in the not too distant future.

Here are Jill and I at the Wiener Naschmarkt, where you can get fresh fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, and much more.

Here I am at the flea market, where you really never know what you'll find.

Here's Jill's roommate Yarrow at the flea market.

Street performers are not an uncommon sight on Viennese streets, and this knight, performing in the square across from Stephansdom, was among those performing while I was there.

This is my horrible attempt to capture Stephansdom with the camera. The church is amazing, having been added onto during various epochs. The exterior is mostly Gothic, as you can see. Inside there is incredible artwork, some of it Baroque, but unfortunately it was too dark for me to get good pictures. I'm sure there are websites you can with pictures that won't leave so much to be desired as mine does. Sorry!

Here's a shot of a protest against the war in Afghanistan. I tried to get a shot showing the red flag with the hammer and sickle signifying Soviet communism, but it didn't work out. Across the way other people were protesting the wearing of fur. Jill says Viennese protests, which are generally organized around one theme, usually end up being protests against anything and everything that anyone is upset about.

That's all for this one!
