My brother and I returned to China in 1998.  These were pictures taken as part of the Yangtze tour.  We also visited Hong Kong after the tour for a few days.  It was the first time that I returned to my birthplace.  The food was great in Hong Kong, but there were just too many people.

This was taken in Dufu's cottage. Dufu was a well-known poet in the Tang Dynasty. Tang poetry 300 contains some of his works.

Dujiang Dam was built over 2000 years ago to help irrigate the farmlard in the Chengdu area. It is still being used today. Of course, most of the parts are replaced with steel and concrete.

Yellow Crane Tower is a famous landmark in Wuhan. The tower has been rebuilt several times due to wars and natural disasters.

This is the People's Assembly Hall.

Dazu has a long history. Today, it is a small-size town.

Guangzhou, Guangdong Province

HuangFahJiang park is a memorial for the 72 martyrs who died in a failed revolt against the Ching Dynasty.

The tombstone lists the names and hometowns of all 72 martyrs. Some were from my hometown of Fah Yuen.

Six Banyan Temple is a famous temple in Guangzhou.

You can see the financial district of Chungwan from Zimshajue Harbor. The ferry ride across is only 10 cents.

Wong Da Sin Temple is a favorite place where Hong Kong people pray. There are also many fortune tellers here.

Huangshan is one of China's largest national park. It is only a 90 minute flight.

Many of the Chinese painting are scenes from Huangshan.

Tourist will travel by lifts halfway up Huangshan. The rest are on your own. If you can't make it to the top, you can pay the locals to carry you up in.

One of the longest river in China, the Yangtze River is a vital source of water and power for China.

Poets wrote poems that referred to the monkeys and wildlife that roam these cliffs. Unfortunately, those are rare sights these days.

The construction of the Yangtze Three Gorge Dam was at the beginning stages in 1998. Most of these sites will be/are underwater when the Dam is completed.
