Our family took a weekend trip to Austin to attend the wedding of my cousin, Julie. We met up with relatives that traveled from all across the country to witness and participate in this wonderful event. My Aunt Marty and Uncle Gary took good care of everyone that weekend. We began Friday night with a barbeque in the outside garden area of the bed and breakfast we were all staying in. We all had some time to let our kids meet each others kids, and for us all to do a bit of catching up with people we had not seen in a few years. In the flurry of fun I even caught a glimpse of Trevor, Julie's fiance. The next day we had the better part of the day to explore Austin. Some went mountain biking, others went to Barton Springs (we went there) or walked through one of the downtown areas (we did that too). The wedding was quite nice, in a beautiful Presbyterian church downtown. Julie and Trevor rode off in a horse drawn carriage, showered with bubbles blown by the crowd (rather than rice or bird seed). A very nice touch of class I thought. The reception was an outstanding good time. A musician played acoustical music during dinner. A live band started pumping up the party as the dinner plates started getting put away. The dance floor was soon crowded. As far as I could see, everyone had an absolutely excellent time. Our son Corey (4 3/4 yrs) and daughter Megan (2 3/4 yrs) danced and danced and danced. In fact, while Gail and I were dancing, my uncle Gary came to the dance floor and said what we thought to be "I'm sorry to intrude, but I wanted to tell you that Megan is really growing up!" I stood there, a bit puzzled about the timing of such a statement, while Gail smiled proudly and said "thanks, I know, she really is, isn't she" Then Gary's expression changed to bewilderment. What he actually said was "Megan is throwing up!" Too much eating and dancing I suppose. The next Sunday, we met at Julie and Trevor's new home. My cousin Reed (Julie's brother) put together a fantastic brunch. He and his wife, Margo, served us at tables set up in the backyard. The weather was beautiful, the food was excellent, and the company of all our relatives was refreshing. Corey made me proud that weekend. I had recently given him a cheap Ansco fixed focus, point and shoot camera. He shot one practice roll about a week prior, and I had given him a few pointers on photography. He went on a photographic frenzy that weekend (as did I) and turned out some darned good photographs. What you see below is a gallery of the photos Corey took that weekend, remember, he was less than 5 years old when he took these. And he took them with no help from anyone. |
