Sheepshead
Archosargus probatocephalus
Sheepshead
Sheepshead usually fall between 1 to 1 1/2 feet, but have been seen up to 3 feet long.
They can be found from 3 to 40 feet.
This fish is somewhat common along the continental coastline.
Calling wrecks, rocky areas, pilings and docks home, Sheepshead are generally not too shy. If they feel safe, they will allow a diver to slowly approach, and they may actually come to watch whatever activity a diver is engaged in.
