China and Yangtze River Tour
--My trip back to China in Nov of 1998
< ITINERARY >


    1. West Coast/Beijing

    2. Relax on your transpacific flight to Beijing.  
       
    3. Beijing 

    4. Welcome to China’s capital ,Beijing. Upon arrival,you are escorted to the centrally located Crown Plaza Hotel. 
       
    5. Beijing (B.L.D)

    6. After breakfast,you are off to see the sights,including the vast Tian An Men Square,and Ming treasures adorning the Imperial palace in the once Forbidden City. In the afternoon, more Ming extravagances are evident as you tour the Summer Palace. We end the day with the pleasure of a evening cultuture performance.  
       
    7. Beijing (B.L.D)

    8. Today we have a full day excursion to the magnificent Great Wall,only man-made object visible from moon by naked eyes. A very traditional northern Chinese style lunch served at local restaurant.We return the city via the valley of Ming Tombs. This evening you are invited to an Peking Duck banquet.  
       
    9. Beijing (B.L)

    10. Today’s highlight is to see the exquisite architecture and vivid embellishment of the Temple of Heaven, followed by a tour of the more sedate Tibetan lama temple-Yong he Gong. We also take a leisurely climb to the Jinshan,where we have a superb view of the Old imperial city and its idyllic surrounding lakes and gardens.  
       
    11. Beijing/Xian (B.L)

    12. We fly to Xian,a former grand capital of 11 Chinese dynasties,renowned for its wealth of antiquities. A city tour takes us to the 700 years old city walls and China’s greatest collection of ancient stone tablets,the Forest of Steles. We stay at centrally located Hyatt Regency Hotel. 
       
    13. Xian (B.L)

    14. We have an excursion to the world renowned Terracotta Army,guarding the tomb of the first emperor of Qin dynasty for over 2000 years. We also visit the Huaqin Hotspring and Banpo Neolithic Museum. In the evening,we enjoy a fabulous Tang Dynasty Dance and Music show. 
       
    15. Xian/Chongqing (B.L)

    16. Fly to Chongqing,mountainous city at the conjunction of Yangtze and Jialing rivers. A short city tour is arranged before we are transfered to the Deluxe cruise ship,MS Victoria, for a memorable voyage down the mighty Yangtze River.  
       
    17. Yangtze river cruise (B.L.D)

    18. Sail from Chongqing early morning.Time to explore the ship’s aminities,including the restaurant where appetizing meals are served, before afternoon arrival at Ghost City of Fengdu. Go ashore to view Mingshan hill’s temples,filled with statues of ghosts and devils. Sail from Fengdu this evening for Wanxian.  
       
    19. Yangtze River cruise (B.L.D)

    20. Unforgettable experiences today begin as you cruise through the first of the fabled Three gorges -Qutang . Its towering rock formations have names which reflect their bizzare shapes such as Hanging Monk Rock or Rhinoceros Looking at Moon. Arriving at Wushan,we are transfered to a motorboat and cruise up the Daning river to view its breathtaking Small Three Gorges,misty and emerald. Sail on from Wushan and soon we are passing through the second gorge -Wu Gorge,celebrated for its lofty Twelve Peaks,which almost blot out  the sky.  
       
    21. Yangtze River cruise (B.L.D)

    22. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast before sailing from Zigui. now you cruise through Xiling Gorge,the last and the most scenic of all gorges. On arrival at Gezhou Dam,we take an shore excursion to Yichang. Then sail on to Shashi,where you go ashore to visit ancient Jinzhou. Browse Jinzhou Museum’s relics,highlighted by a well preserved 2000-year-old mummy. Depart Shashi early this evening.  
       
    23. Yangtze river cruise/Wuhan/Shanghai (B.L)

    24. Arrive at Wuhan mid-morning,and disembark after lunch. A city tour of Wuhan shows its Yellow Crane Tower,before our flight to Shanghai. Arrival transfer to the historic Peace Hotel by the Bund. 
       
    25. Shanghai (B.L)

    26. Shanghai is China’s most populous city,with 12 million inhabitants,and  it is the nations's industrial center and a busy port . There is the chance to stroll on the Bund overlooking the Huangpu River with its backdrop of early 20th century buildings,to visit the former concession areas and narrow streets of the Old City. Also of interest is the Jade buddha Temple and Yu Garden.  
       
    27. Shanghai/Guilin (B.L)

    28. Our flight takes us from the East China plain to the scenic town of Guilin where you will see the astonishing limestone peaks of Guilin, which rise out of their semi-tropical river surroundings. We stay at Royal Garden Hotel.  
       
    29. Guilin (B.L)

    30. Today we take a leisurely boat ridew along the Li River, moving gently between peaks reflected in the limpid waters. A common sight is the cormorant fisherman,with their wide bimmed hats and narrow bamboo rafts,while water buffalo laze by the river. We stop at Yangshuo where we have time to browse the interesting local antique and crafts market.  
       
    31. Guilin/Canton (B.L)

    32. In the morning ,we visit the Reed Flute Cave before flying south to the city of Canton.Here there is time to visit the Yue Xiu park,the Pearl river and Shamian island-once the European concession area. Stay at the award winning White Swan Hotel.  
       
    33. Canton/Hong Kong (B.)

    34. Take morning train to the exciting Hong Kong,where we stay at New World Renaissance Hotel. 

      Hong Kong (B.) 
      We spend today enjoying this vibrant city's many sights 

    35. and experiences. A half-day guided orientation tour will take us atop Victoria Peak for  a 360-degree view of Hong Kong Island,Kowloon, and the surrounding harbors and outer islands.Then a scenic drive takes us past Repulse Bay to the colorful floating community of Aberdeen, and vibrant Stanley Market, a favorite bargain shopping area. You are free to explore the other aspects of the city for the remainder of the day. Meals B.
