Jodhpur,
otherwise known as the blue city, is another bustling city with its fort
standing strategically up on the highest ground in the region. I have heard two
versions for the blue tingy. One is that the blue wards away mosquito. I can't
help wondering was it color or the toxic blue paint that actually killed
the mosquito.. Anyway, there wasn't any mosquito to begin with.
The residents here are really warm, and we befriended this really nice local, who brought us to his hometown. He's a practicing pharmist. He was really sincere, and showed us his 4 generation extended family, all under one roof, and took pride in his cow too. The cow is supposed to be a holy entity, and to own one in the family is good.
The
city palace within Jopdhur's majestic fort is carved almost entirely out of
sandstone. The detail in craftsmanship really shows, and despite hundreds of
years of weather, the royal balconies still stand out with so much ethnic flavor.
The
dancing little girl was really aggressive. When I noticed her, she marched
straight into our path and dragged me across to the best spot for the shot. And
she stood there, all ready to be photographed. Well, I kind of reluctantly
obliged, thought that she's adorable though. The least I could do was to make
her do a couple more spins to earn her rupee. Hee.
Yes,
the ever so famous Palace of the Winds. The masterpiece speaks for itself.
Originally built for the Royals and the concubines to look out into the parade
and dancing outside, it is now just a standing facade, with few who would
notice, except maybe the genuine travelers, like you and me..
Also
known as the Pink city, the major structures and royal rooms are predominantly
pink, as you can see. Little was known on why the color pink.
