how we met...from carl's narrative
we first met in college. mia was a freshman and i was a sophomore. we were both involved in a filipino student organization called kababayan. we met through this organization as we were preparing for the annual cultural night, a celebration of our filipino heritage and culture.
both mia and i sang in the choir and were dance partners in a specific dance ensemble. i actually had a hand in making sure mia was my partner, thanks to a good friend, Mike, who was also our dance coordinator. i was smitten with mia at first sight, but it took some time for me to get noticed.
eventually we began to date and officially became a couple on september 2, 1994. it was a long battle on my part but it has all turned out wonderfully for the both of us.
like my first attempts at courting mia, this was also a battle. i had planned for a wonderful morning of hot air ballooning, picnicking, and then proposing.
our day started on september 2, 2001 at 4 a.m. i had a difficult time getting mia to wake up and keeping the destination and other events secret from her. she would not give in and was dedicated to verifying where we were going and what i had planned.
nonetheless, the balloon ride was magnificent and the picnic was great as we sipped wine and learned the history of hot air ballooning.
as we prepared to leave, i proposed to mia in the car. the answer was a forgone conclusion and the rest is history. we were kind of tired because of the early morning start, but we managed to go to church and celebrate with our families.
