"At the Beach, there are only two days that are important... the day you get there and the day you leave."
The Outer Banks of North Carolina is one of my most favorite places. Some of my first efforts of photography were done last summer at the Beach. Unfortunately, the quality of the images are not that good. But here they are.
The early sea gull catches the sand crab to beat the before
it emerges from the Atlantic Ocean. There is no more peaceful place to
have your morning tea than right here
.As
the day stretches on and the temperature goes to the triple digits, a walk
along the beach yields sights like this
.
The image is on low resolution so the quality is poor. Believe me there
is a kite in the center of the picture. The coast of the United States
is dotted with lighthouses. I have captured two here. Hatteras Lighthouse
is on a storm pounded point that looks out to the "Grave Yard of the
Atlantic". After trudging through soft wet sand that went over my ankles,
this shot
was
taken without a tripod. Not exactly compositionally correct, but it wasn't
what I was really there for. A second shot is not much better as I was
leaning on and about to fall down a sand dune.
After banging the sand from my shoes, I positioned myself lying down to
get the lighthouse in the frame ot the picture. This image
is
enhanced to brighten the early morning shadow that darkened most of the
picture. Sound like fun? It was! Bodie Light
is
a little more accessable. After busting a seafood buffet of crablegs, the
next order of business is to climb Jockey's Ridge to watch the
over
the sound.
I will be returning, so expect more of the Beach in the future.
