The plaza in front of the Pyramid of the Moon is surrounded by twelve temples. In the center is a platform which may have been used for religious dances
The Avenue of the Dead stretches the entire length of the city. It was given that name by the Aztecs. When they arrived in the area, centuries after the city was abandoned, they found the ruins covered with earth. They assumed that the structures were burial mounds.
Teotihuacan was a city adorned with mural paintings. Traces of artwork, such as this along the Avenue of the Dead, still remain.
