JAGUARES SELL OUT 13,000 SEAT ARROWHEAD POND VENUE, MARKING THE FIRST TIME A SPANISH-LANGUAGE ALT-ROCK BAND HAS FILLED A U.S. ARENA

Grammy-Nominated Mexican Alternative Icons' Sold-Out LA Show Occurred Without The Support of Commercial Radio or Television.

Led By Former Caifanes Frontman/Songwriter Saúl Hernandez, Jaguares Have Now Sold More Than 150,000 Copies of the "Bajo El Azul De Tu Misterio" Double
Album In the U.S. Alone, And Are Currently Nominated For a Billboard Award In the "Best Rock/Fusion" Category.

"A mystical ceremony of soulful mood-rock, Jaguares' concert at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim was a night of special meaning in the growing rock en español community - the first time a band in the genre has sold out a venue of that size (the pop-loving quartet Mana doesn't count)….There's a maturity to the new tunes, a restrained sensuality…But Jaguares is not only about the music. On stage, Saúl Hernandez concocts an explosive cocktail of emotional intensity."

Ernesto Lechner, LA Times

"These rock en Espanol standouts kick-started the approximately 13,000 fans….Among the highlights of the evening was the graceful beauty of Hernandez singing 'No Me Culpes' backed only by an orchestra [led by David Campbell, Beck's father], giving the song a gentler identity and Hernandez an angelic air…The message to sum up the evening was one of victory, and it had to be delivered by the poet-philosopher Hernandez: 'Tonight, this place was ours.' And, as thousands of fans attested, it truly was."

Dan Chang, Orange County Register

"Every time Jaguares' front man sways his bronze, Christlike hair, each impassioned guitar note and phrase meets its charismatic embodiment. Hernandez's lyrics, both spiritual and provocative, enthrall audiences….Jaguares' current CD, Bajo el azul de tu misterio, has sold more than 100,000 copies here - a first for a rock alternativo en espanol group."

A testament to the growing power of the Latin alternative movement in the United States, Mexico City's Jaguares sold out the 13,000 seat Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim on February 19th without any opening act or the support of commercial radio or television. Garnering numerous critical accolades and commercial achievements on their just-completed U.S. tour, Jaguares were recently nominated for both Grammy and Billboard Awards. The recognitions follow a breakthrough year in which the band's double album Bajo El Azul De Tu Misterio (BMG U.S. Latin) became the highest debuting alternative rock album ever on the Billboard Latin 50 Albums chart.

Well before the "Latin crossover" phenomenon, songwriter Saúl Hernandez's music began reaching Anglo audiences on a large scale. His former group Caifanes became the first Latin rock band to tour the U.S. with a major Anglo act when it headlined a 1994 California tour with Live and Red Kross. In 1995, Caifanes accepted an invitation from Peter Gabriel to trek across the United States with the WOMAD tour. Hernandez has also collaborated with a number of international musicians - Stewart Copeland and Andy Summers (The Police) performed with each other for the first time in ten years when they joined Jaguares onstage at a Los Angeles concert in 1998. Hernandez also collaborated with legendary Algerian rai singer Cheb Khaled on an Arabic/Spanish track from the artist's 1996 album 'Sahra'.

The thousands of fans who fill each Jaguares show sing along with Hernandez's every word, and demonstrate a level of appreciation and respect for the group seldom encountered at other rock bands' concerts. Jaguares' lyrics, which address both the soul and political issues, speak to a generation of Latin American youth who do not identify with the pop confectionery likes of Jennifer Lopez or Ricky Martin.
